THE TULIA Swlthar County HERALD
Delinquent Child Delinquent Home
By J Edgar Hoover Director Federal Bureau of Investigation
SOME TIME ago a Juvenile
crime club was broken up on
the West Coast Its members
ranged from 0 to 15 years old
They admitted picking pockets
shoplifting burglarizing and
other crimes
Five of the twelve boys had
parents who both worked full
time Two of the other boys had
been deserted by their mother
and were In a housekeepers
charge while
their father
worked all day
Another came
from a broken BKKi iHi
home his mother
worked all
day to support
her children
Neglected at
home all these
boys fell Into Hoover
bad company and became criminalsTHIS STORY and many like
It shows that we need sound
family life family prayer and
religious instruction to solve
our growing Juvenile delinquency
problem Children arent
born criminals they become
criminals
A wholesome family life is of
primary Importance In the
childs early environment A
happy home glowing with love
of God provides a healthy atmosphere

child Imitates his parents
actions and attitudes If he sees
the good example of religious
parents he will tend to be a
Godfearing man
THE CHILD who sees parental
fighting and bickering Immorality
and lrrellgion In the home
must look beyond the family
circle to develop wholesome
Ideals But where else can a
young child look but to his parents
Invariably the child who
does not find proper guidance
at home never finds ltvat all
Juvenile delinquency Is the resultIn the Midwest recently a
fourteenyearold boy was arrested
for the murder of a man
his wife and daughter He had
no reason at all for killing them
they had always treated him
very kindly When the parents
of this young criminal were
questioned they admitted that
they both worked fulltime
They had no time to Instruct
their child about God
WE MUST remember that not
only immoral parents produce
Juvenile delinquents Well
meaning but careless parents
too busy to teach their children
to love God and too busy
to give time to family prayer
frequently cause delinquent
children Against this carelessness
the parents of our citizens
of tomorrow must be constantly
on guard

Paula May Liles
To Wed Mr Lee
Mr and Mrs P E Liles are announcing
the approaching marriage
of their daughter Paula May to
Freddie Lee son of Mr and Mrs
Jessie Lee of Happy
The vows will be exchanged Sunday
in the home of the bridetobe
The Rev W Neil Record pastor
of the First Baptist church will perform
the rites
duction
Then too business and professional
men with plenty of money
to spend have been investing in land
Some want a farm as a place to
retire and others buy small farms
for homes and hobbies and tax
writeoffs Farm land prices in suburban
areas have gone up most
But despite this strong demand
nnd prices up nearly 30 since 1950
farm sales have continued at a very
low level Those who could have
held onto their land either beeause
of stubborness and determination to
stay put or else for higher stakes
However for those who are buying
land or for htose who are holding
out for alltimehigh prices on
that land they have for sale word
of caution Is advised
Of course it is sometimes hard
to evaluate good land In terms of
cash considering what natural and
human rsources have gone into
Making a farm But practical
matters considered most current
land prices arc above levels that
can be justified by present or prospective
earning
Farm operating costs are almost
certain to go higher Labor wages
arc on the upward trend and so
are transportation machinery and
other supplies The cost price
squeeze shows little or no signs of
easing Refinancing credit is less
plentiful and interest rates are
higher
Also there is no land shortage
in sight probably not for two generations
and even then peracrc
farm output will have increased to
such a level as to be more than
plentiful for our population
In short unless there is a more
rapid rise in farm commodity prices
than now appears likely it will
take longer to pay out a farm on
Yet in spite of this farm depres the present market than at any
sion the farmers chief investment time in 40 years if the farmer rlies
the farm itself has risen in cost solely on the sale of farm products
to about the same extent that pri And that about all they grow
ces for commodities have dropped
There are several reasons for the
rapid rise in land prices The most
important has been the need of
farmers for additional land to
set lower acreage allotments Other
farmers need more land to take full
advantage of increased mechanical i
equipment and keep income up despite
falling prices with added pro
