night in the homo of Mr and Mrs

for a covered dish supper and 42
party Those present were Mr and
Mrs Ray Tomsu and Pauletta Mr
and Mrs Lewis Landers Virginia
and June Mr and Mrs W S Hudson
Mrs Mattle Wcatherrcd and
Stanley Mr and Mrs E V Burton
and children Mr and Mrs Pete Os
borne and daughter
Rev Robert Brown left Tuesday
morning for a Council meeting in
Dallas for Camp in the summer
months
Mr and Mrs Dennis Boggs and
Mrs Minerva Moore were called to
Tulsa Oklahoma Sunday afernoon
on a death message from Mr and
Mrs James Moore who had lost
their two months old son Death was
very sudden the baby hadnt been
ill very long Dehyration and other
complications were reported as the
cause of death The funeral was held
Monday morning in Tulsa
Mr and Mrs Guy Allen had dinner
guests Sunday Mr and Mrs
Woodie Boston David and FelW
Mr and Mrs Jlmmle Allen Fred
and Johnny Mr and Mrs Douglas
Allen of Plainview were afternoon
callers
Mr Jack Stiff and son Fred Autry
Fort Worth were visitors Wednesday
in the home of Mr and Mrs

Mr and Mrs Elbert Savage entertained
Sunday with a dinner

Mr and Mrs Denny visited In the
homo of Mr and Mrs Henry Evan
north of South Plains
Rev George H Bryant 7G years
old pioneer Methodist Minister to
the Panhandle Plains country and
adjoining West Texas counties for
4G years died at 2 p m Friday In
the Methodist hospital In Lubbock
following a heart attack WednesdayIn 1903 ho was licensed to preach
Ho received his education for the
ministry at the Wall school at Honey
Grove and the Southwestern university
Three years later he took his
first pastorate His assignment was
the Umbarger Mission Ho lived at
Umbargcr preached in school houses
in Swisher Randall Deaf Smith
Potter and Oldham counties holding
services every night in the week except
Mondays and Fridavs
In 1907 ho came to Kress where
he built a church and a parsonage
Also served Dimmltt 190S to 1910
Ho was the first resident pastor of
either of the cities ever had
Later he preached over the radio
in many towns in Amarillo and
Lubbock areas He lived In Bula
when he retired in 1951
Rev Bryant is survived by his
widow Mrs George Bryant Lubbock
one son Joe H president
of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce
Four daughters Mrs H B
Vaughn 906 Alabama Mrs Barney
Ohmart and Miss Lenna Bryant
both of Wichita Kansas and Mrs R
C Bnghtwell of San Francisco California
Funeral was held in Lubbock
Monday morning and burial was in
Amarillo
Ivan G Wimp son of Mr and
Mrs Ivan E Wimp Rt 1 Kress
Texas has been enrolled by Northrop
Aeronautical Institute Inglo
wood Califoria In the Aeronautical
Engineering course Ho is joining
hundreds of young men from
every state and many foreign countries
who are pursuing their aeronautical
studies at Northrop Ivan
who served in the U S Army is
a graduate of Kemper Military
School in Boonvillc Missouri
Choosing the evergrowing aircraft
industry for his future career
and North Institute because of its
accreditation and wide industry recognition
Ivan expects to complete
his intensive Aeronautical Engineering
studies in two years He
will graduate as a qualified aeronautical
engineer and may then bo
employed by one of the major airlines
or aircraft manufacturers
The Kress High school band with
its director Tubal Cain and Mrs
Cain attended the Boston Pops Orchestra
concert at Clovis N M Friday
night
The group attended the concert as
guests of Plainview and Kicss
merchants and others who bought
tickets for them
They left Kress about G am Friday
in a school bus The Boston
Pops musicians appeared at Clovis
as a Community Concert feature
On March 15 the band and Cain
plan to hear the U S Air Force
Band in a concert at West Texas
State College in Canyon Cain

Earl Byrd of Dumas was born Saturday
and passed away Sundav at
Dumas hospital Mr and Mrs Byrd
formerly hed in this community
before moving to Dumas recently
Our sympathy to this family in their
sorrow
Bro and Mrs Billy Hall ate Sunday
dinner with the Patterson familyMr and Mrs J W Wesley went
to Littlefield Saturday and on to
Lubbock Sunday where they attended
the wedding of their grandson
