Pole banners announcing the Vicari Auction Cruisin'
Nocona event went up this week. The date parts of the
banners are attached by Velcro so the main banner can
used for several years.

After months of planning,
weekly meetings and untold
number of phone calls and
conversations, plans for the
first ever Cruisin' Nocona
Classic Car Show & Auction
is just eight days away.
Other than reshuffling
some of the vendors, the
organizing committee has
firmed up the vast majority
of their plans. What is left is
to see how many people will
stream to Nocona next
Thursday, Friday and
Saturday for the first ever
event.
Centered on the Horton
Classic Car Museum's three
showrooms and featuring up
to 200 classic cars being auc-
tioned by Vicari Auction
Company.
The inaugural Nocona
Classic Car Auction and
Cruise will feature 200 clas-
sic cars up for bid as well as
a Classic Crusin' Poker Run
through Texas' "other Hill
Country" - northern
Montague and Cooke
Counties.
"Classic car enthusiasts
are invited to attend our auc-
tion and cruise the beautiful
byways of the North Texas
Hill Country cursing through
the region's picturesque
wine country during Texas'
Bluebonnet season and
enjoying two days of food,
fun and cars," said Pete
Vicari, president of Vicari
Auction.
"Nocona is the ideal town
for a classic car event not
only because of its many his-
toric attractions, but also
because the stunning Texas
hill country is a perfect back-
drop for a car cruise."
The auction preview and
classic car cruise will run
throughout the day on
Friday, April 19, with
numerous vendors, food,
exhibits and live entertain-
ment from the Josh Weathers
Band/.
During the cruise, atten-
dees can participate in the
Classic Cruisin' Poker Run
collecting cars along three
scheduled stops during the
run. The winning poker hand
will receive a $1,000 prize.
The Chisholm Trail Art
Association will be hosting a
Cruisin' Nocona Art Show
next door to Times Forgotten
Steak House throughout the
weekend. This is a juried
show featuring some of the
best work by regional artists.
Onsite registration for the
cruise is $65 per car at the
Vicari Auction Tent which
will be located on East
Walnut Street between the
Horton Classic Car Museum
and Nocona Lumber.
Opening ceremonies are
set for 9 a.m. Friday in the
Vicari Tent hosted by
Nocona Mayor Robert
Fenoglio. Cruisers will start
at 9:30 returning to town in
mid afternoon for a parade of
classic cars through town
and then in display along
Clay street.
Both Friday and Saturday
mornings there will be a pan-
cake breakfast from 7 to 10
a.m. at the Nocona Church
Pete Vicari
of Christ followed on
Saturday by the Vicari
Classic & Muscle Car
Auction which begins at 10
a.m.
That afternoon there will
be a variety of entertainment
acts for the public to enjoy.
During the Class Car
Show, Clay Street will be
closed to regular traffic for
the safety of the guests.

MONTAGUE - The soon
to be 100-year-old
Montague County
Courthouse will get a new
roof, sidewalks and curbs as
a result of action taken dur-
ing Monday's meeting the
county commissioner's court
— the first to be held in the
recently opened Montague
County Courthouse Annex.
Pet. 4 Comm. Bob
Langford and Pet. 3 Comm.
Mark Murphey, both of
Nocona, seived as a two-
man committee to solicit
bids for three major projec-
tions at the courthouse: the
roof, the sidewalks and curbs
and replacing virtually all of
the windows in the structure.
Monday two of those
projects were given the
green light with action
expected on the third within
a month.
Three separate proposals
were rolled into the roof
project.
One called for removing
the "dog house" atop the
courthouse, for a proposed
$19,480; another called for
replacing the clay tile roof
when new clay tiles, for a
proposed $239,000; and the
third, which drew the most
discussion, called for replac-
ing the rain gutters with gal-
vanized rain gutters.
Stating he had been "won
over" on the subject of clay
roofing tiles, Comm.
Langford proposed the coun-
ty enter into an agreement by
Lydick-Hooks Roofing
Company of Wichita Falls to
replace the old clay tile roof
with new clay tiles.
Langford had persistently
lobbied for using metal look-
alike tiles, until shown the
differences.
The flat areas of the roof
would be tapered (1/4-inch
fall per running foot) and
covered with GAF's 60 mil
TPO using bonding adhe-
sive. The existing clay tiles
and underlying felt would be
removed and replaced with
three layers of 30 pound felt
and new Ludowici tile.
Langford warned the
court there will be some
additional expenses not cov-
ered in the bids to repair any
rotting decking that might be

"Clean Up Nocona Day" in
preparation for our TV
debut. The dump across from
the rodeo grounds and the

"This is a huge opportuni-
ty for our community. Since
losing a large manufacturer,
our town has struggled with
growth. The Cruise and
Auction give us a chance to
prosper and grow, but we
need to put our best foot for-
ward," commented Chamber
Director Sydney Nowell.
