Four teams place in regional event

DENTON — On
Thursday, Aug. 23, sixteen
of the Montague County 4-H
members participated in the
livestock judging contest at
the North Texas State Fair in
Denton.
The team members repre-
senting the Montague
County Senior Division were
Kursten Hughes, Zack
Ingram, Colt Rainey, and
Mariah Reaves, winning
11th Place Senior Team.
The Montague Junior
Division members were
Lane Geurin, Kinley
Hansard, Weldon Hunter,
Paden Jarosz, Callie Melton,
Devin Melton, Ashley
Rainey, May lie Short,
Jessica Vogel, Easton
Womack, Jaden Woodyard,
and Jalee Woodyard.
Montague County had
two overall ribbon winners
in the Junior Division. The
best possible score for the
contest was 475 points.
Kinley Hansard won 4th
Place with a total score of
424 points, and Lane Geurin
won 6th Place with a total
score of 418 points.
The Montague County
Junior Team placements
were as follows: The 3rd
Place Junior Team went to
Kinley Hansard, Callie
Melton, Maylie Short, and
Ashley Rainey. The 6th
Place Junior Team went to
Lane Geurin, Weldon
Hunter, Easton Womack,
and Devin Melton. The 7th
Place Junior Team went to
Jessica Vogel, Jalee
Woodyard, Jaden Woodyard
, and Paden Jarosz.
These students have been
practicing, using livestock
films, at the Montague
County Extension Agent's
office for about three weeks.
There are several new live-
stock judging participants in
the county this school year.
All the 4-H students did
an outstanding job at the fair.

Sheriff's deputies
responded to 96 calls for
service the week of Aug. 20
through 26 including 12
reports of stray livestock and
eight disturbances.
Deputies responded to a
disturbance Aug. 20 on April
Street.
The burglary of a habita-
tion two miles west of Saint
Jo on U.S. Highway 82 was
investigated on Aug. 20.
Miscellaneous fishing sup-
plies were reportedly stolen.
A turquoise colored fertil-
ized tank valued at more
than $1,750 was reported
stolen Aug. 20 from a site on
FR 677 south of Saint Jo.
A man was arrested Aug.
21 for killing a dog during a
civil dispute outside of
Bowie.
An assault/family vio-
lence complaint was investi-
gated Aug. 21 on Sunset
School Road.
Bowie Police reported a
criminal mischief incident
Aug. 23 when someone
damaged porch supports.
The sexual assault of a
child was reported Aug. 24
by Bowie Memorial
Hospital.
An arrest was made on
Wise Street in Bowie Aug.
25 for possession of marijua-
na under 2 ounces.
A sickly horse was found
walking down Fruitland
Road Aug. 25.
A possession of marijua-
na arrest was made Aug. 25
on FM 1956.
A driving while intoxicat-
ed arrest was made Aug. 26
on FM 1125.
And another DWI arrest
was made Aug. 26 along
with an arrest for outstand
warrant on S.H. 59 one mile
north of FM 1958.
