Max Brown of Ringgold, a member of the County Historical Commission, pulls the tarp away to
unveil the County Sesquicentennial Historial Marker Monday morning. The marker was placed
on the southwest corner of the courthouse square opposite the Centennial Marker placed on trhe
northwest corner in 1958. In the forground is the time capsule which was buried behind the
marker and is not scheduled to be opened until somet time in 2058 as part of the county's bi-cen-
tennial celebration.

For our mail subscribers your
mailing label has a new look to
it.
In an effort to maximize
service through the U.S. Postal
Service, the Nocona News has
purchased a new subscrip-
tion/mailing program which is
both PAVE and CASS certified
by the Postal Service.
Among other things the pro-
gram puts local subscriptions in
"walk sequence" and barcodes
out-of-county address labels
which can be scanned by the
Post Service's automated equip-
ment and more quickly moved
to the recipients.
As a result of the change in
software, your mailing label
looks different.
So a brief explanation:
The top line of the new label
is a string of asterisks followed
by the sacking code which tells
the Postal Service what type of
mail is included in the bundle.
In the example to the side, "3-
Digit 762" means every paper in
the bundle is delivered to an
address for which the first three
digits of the Zip Code are
"762XX".
The second line includes the
subscriber's customer number
on the left, their renewal date
next to it and then on the right
two three character alpha-
numeric codes which tells The
News which package "P"
includes this piece of mail and
which mailing sack "S" or tray
"T" to which it is assigned.
Then comes four lines of
names and addresses. To the far
right is a notation for the local
post office as to which Box

Section "B", Carrier Route "C",
General Deliver Section "G" or
Rural Route "R" the newspaper
is to be delivered to.
For the out-of-county sub-
scribers a bar code is located at
the bottom of the label allowing
for automated routing of the
newspaper by the Postal
Service.
According to both the soft-
ware manufacturer and the U.S.
Postal Service, CASS and
PAVE automation speeds up the
mailing process.
So, to our out-of-county and
especially our out-of-state sub-
scribers a request — give us a
couple of weeks to work the
bugs out of the addressing and
then let us know if you are get-
ting the newspaper any faster or
not.
