The farmers of this county say, if we
don't have raiu within a few days the cot-
ton crop will he ruined, that we had too
much warm weather and sunshine, caus"
ing the plants to mature too fast. A year
ago we had similar weather, aud but for a
rain early in August the crop would have
been a failure.

When using lime let it be slaked
and in a Very tine condition. It
should bo sown broadcast in order to
reach every portion ot the soil. Its
eii'ect is due more to chemical action
than to its value as "a fertilizer. On
santiy soils however, it is a partial ler-
tilizer, but is of but, little service in
that respect on heavy clay soils.

The Chicago Tribune has inter-
viewed the leaders of labor erganiza-
tions at Chicago, aud finds a remark-
able unanimity of opinion. Tlie fol-
lowing" sentences give the pith of the
matter:
Charles Dixon, Past Master Knights
of Labor—"Cleveland will certainly
not receive the votes of the majority
of the working people."
.Richard Powers, President Sea-
men's Union—"Nine out of every ten
Irish working men whom I have me
are talking lifaine "
Thomas 11. Ling, Master Workman
Painter's Assembly—"The Democrat-
ic party, in nominating Cleveland, lost
o,0UU voters among the tiadesunion-
ists at Chicago.
W. 11. Muldoon, President Cooper's
Union—'"Cleveland cannot be elected.
The organized labor of the country
will not support him. In the shop
where 1 work arc thirty-two men,
tour of whom are Republicans. Of
the thirty-two just two will vote for
Cleveland."
J. 1>. Murphy, President Tanners
and Curriers Union—"W'e did not
have twenty-five Republicans in our
Union. We have circulated exten-
sively among our members. Not only
they, but all the friends over whom
they have any influence will cast their
vote for Maine.''
George Schilling, active worker
among Trades Unions—"So far as I
have observed things in the shops, the j
feeling is prettv unanimous against
Cleveland."
These are samples ot many state-
ments from men ot' the same class,
most of whom have been Democrats
hitherto.
