These early photographs, from the archives
of the Texas Forestry Museum in 1
Lufkin, show logging operations in East
Texas during the infancy of that industry.
The image at the top is from the
Thompson & Tucker Lumber Company 3
in Trinity County. It shows a "good log
under a slip tongue cart". The photograph
at the bottom, also from Thompson
& Tucker Lumber, is at Sour Lake,
Texas, in Hardin County. It captures life
at the "First Front" logging camp, located
about one and one-half miles south of the
mill. Both images date to 1907-1908.
The Texas Forestry Museum is dedicated
to the preservation of the heritage
of the timber industry in East Texas and
the study of its influence on the culture of i. ---
