Recognizing that the great state of Texas is
changing fast, and that it is up to its citizens to
preserve the rich history that makes this state
great, the Texas Historical Foundation is sponsoring
its second annual Photograph Texas
Participants are encouraged to photograph their
cities, the people, the buildings, and the festivals
that make their city, county, and region of Texas
what it is. Photograph Texas today for the historic
merit that the images will have tomorrow.
The competition is open to all residents of
Texas. This year, color and black and white
images are eligible as long as the work is original.

The Contest: Submit up to five slides for
$10.00 that represent your region -- north, south,
east, and west -- in Texas. Forty images will be
selected, 10 from each region in Texas, to form
a traveling exhibition. Each of the 40 images
will be published in THF's Heritage magazine.
The Juror: Julianne Newton, final competition
juror, is head of photojournalism at The University
of Texas in Austin, specializing in visual
ethics. She has more than 20 years of journalism
experience, including reporting and/or editing
for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Waco TribuneHerald,
and the Austin American-Statesman.
$1,400 in cash prizes; grand prize of at least $200.
First, second, third, and honorable mention
awards will be given at the discretion of juror.
