Three miles north of Valera is the Centennial school complex. Once a showplace of the Coleman County I.S.D., it was completed in 1941. Besides a brick and stone
classroom building, the project included a handsome gym, as well as sports courts and a teacherage. The buildings now house a regional alternative high school.
