Commission's 1989 historic
preservation conference, April 27-29.
Keynote speakers at the conference
include Texas First Lady, Rita Clements
and Dr. John Alexander, Director of the
national Christopher Columbus Quincentenary
Jubilee Commission.

the conference offers preservationists aSibley Retires From Board
It was announced at the January THF Board of Directors
meeting that Dr. D. J. Sibley, who has served for many years as
Chairman of the Foundation's
Archaeology
Committee, plans to retire
from the Board. He
will, however, continue
his interest in Archaeology
Committee affairs.
The Texas Historical
Foundation wishes to
express deep gratitude to
Dr. Sibley for his years of
dedicated service on the _
Committee and Board,
and his significant contributions
to the Foundation.
Gchance to exchange ideas and learn
more about how to further historic preservation
at the local level.
The Dallas County Historical Commission,
local host for this year's conference,
has organized several activities for
participants, including a tour of the
Sixth Floor Exhibit, which chronicles
the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
Conference headquarters will be the
Dallas Sheraton Hotel, located in the
heart of downtown.ARCHEOLOGY
WEEK PLANNEDApril 9-15, 1989
Gov. William Clements proclaimed
April 9-15 as "Texas Archeology Awareness
Week." This year marks the creation
of the event, which supporters hope will
be the focus of numerous archeology
related programs and activities each
spring.
The Texas Historical Commission
joins the Texas Archeological Society,
the Council of Texas Archeologists and
the Texas Historical Foundation in
promoting public awareness and involvement
in the protection of Texas'
archeological and historic sites. Local
museums, archeological societies,
county historical commissions and other
preservation groups are urged to sponsor
special events to promote awareness
during the week.
