consecrated men and women, to offer the full work of an A plus four
year college. In addition we are able to offer special courses for Christian
workers and preachers of the gospel. Thus we are able to serve
in a special way the cause of Christianity. Our purpose is to develop
genuine Christian men and women, well equipped for efficient service
in any honorable field of human activity.
A FIRST CLASS COLLEGE.
There is no waiting for it; we have it in Abilene Christian College.
No better organization is to be found, no better faculty, for such a
school is to be had, and no stronger courses or better courses are to
be offered. Equipment meeting fully all requirements for recognition
will be here when opening day comes in the Fall. We are asking you to
join us in a great statewide campaign for the funds for the new
buildings and endowment which will be necessary to take care of this
increased and growing work. Let us at the earliest day possible provide
these things.
HOW IT CAME ABOUT
It was not our purpose to build a four year college at Abilene.
We were satisfied to give the service of a really first class Junior
College. But we were determined to build into this Junior College
the very best Christian service. Prompted by this desire we were not
satisfied merely because we had complied with the demands of the
state for an A plus Junior College. We continued to add equipment
and to build into our organization men and women as we found them
in harmony with our ideals of Christian service. Our attendance continued
to increase and to represent a wider spread territory. The
center of enrollment changed from the eighth grade to the first
year of college and our graduating class grew larger each year.
Finally we found ourselves face to face with this situation. We
lacked only one man having a faculty meeting in every way the demands
for a standard college. We were short only about $12,500
worth of equipment. Our students and patrons were urging that
the two additional years work of the standard college be added so
these students would not be forced to other institutions to finish their
work.
We found the man and the city of Abilene said they would put up
the money. So Abilene Christian College has grown into a four year
college.
The work is on a sound basis financially and from the viewpoint
of organization. We invite and urge your co-operation in making out
of it a larger and better Christian service.
We ask your careful consideration of everything presented in this
bulletin. You will find what we have, what we are doing and what
we propose for the future.
Let us enthusiastically get together our great numbers, wealth,
ability, and influence and on this excellent foundation laid by comparatively
few, build a Christian service to our children that will be
so broad and deep and strong and genuine and permanent that it will
forever put to silence those within and without our ranks who are
constantly preaching that we are a non-progressive, do-nothing people
without vision and proper conception of service. Under God's
providence this service will go forward. We want you as a co-worker.
