GENERAL INFORMATION
vice and help in their work. In addition to the consultation
hours provided during the day, each of the men on the faculty
will have an evening once each two weeks in which he will spend
the time from seven until ten thirty in the men's hall for consultation
with young men who are enrolled in his classes. We feel
that this service is fully justified in the help that it gives the
students in working out the problems that confront them in college
life.
ABSENCES
Regular and punctual attendance of all pupils at chapel and
classes is absolutely necessary and therefore required. Any disposition
on the part of any student to "cut" class or chapel will
be regarded by the college as a serious breach of its regulations.
The student may offer an excuse in writing for his absence, and
if the Dean approves it the absence will be an excused absence,
otherwise it is an unexcused absence. When any student has as
many as three unexcused absences the instructor must drop the
student's name from the class roll. To be reinstated the student
must pay $1.50 to the Bursar for permission to take a special
examination which the student must pass before being permitted
to attend class again.
Excuses will not be considered unless they are submitted to
the Dean for consideration within a period of three days after the
absence period. Unexcused chapel absences will, at the discretion
of the Dean, lower the student's standing.
Absences excused or unexcused, unless made up, will cause a
student's grade to be lowered. The instructor is asked to keep
an accurate record of class attendance both as to tardies and absences,
whether excused or unexcused, and these will be reported
to the registrar at the close of the quarter to be placed on the
student's permanent record card. If the record shows that the
student has been absent from the class as much as one-tenth of
the number of times he is due, his term hours credit may, at the
discretion of the Dean, be reduced by twenty per cent, and for
each additional absence, a ten percent reduction will be made on
the remaining credit value of the course; e. g. in a five hour
course when a student gets as many as five absences his credit
may be reduced to four term hours.
GROUP ABSENCES
If any athletic team, glee club or other group of students
need to be absent for the purpose of representing the college,
the faculty member in charge must present to the Dean at least27
