SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS
weight playing. Aside from keeping up the correct technical attainments
throughout the different stages of the course of study,
certain requirements must be met for the completion of each
year's course. The requirements are given as follows:
ELEMENTARY GRADE.
Consists of a study of the keyboard, hand position, exercises
for the developing independence of the fingers. Simple Studies
of Kohlers, Lambert's Gulitts, Bertini's twelve little pieces and
Preludes; also such studies and pieces as the teacher may select.
Pupils in the work are given fifteen minute lessons daily, that correct
habits may be formed early.
INTERMEDIATE GRADE.
(a) Duvernoy, Herz's Scales and Exercises; Concone's Fifteen
Studies in Expression, opus 44.
(b) Stephen's Heller opus 45 and 46; Bach's little Preludes;
also other important works to suit the taste of the pupil.
CERTIFICATES.
First Year.
Performances at informal recitals. J. S. Bach's Two- and
Three-Part inventions, Numbers 1, 8, 13, or 14. Mozart Sonatas.
Beethoven Sonata opus 49, number 2, Mendelssohn's "Songs
Without Words."
Second Year.
Performances at informal recitals. Beethoven Sonatas; Selections
from "Childhood Scenes" by Schumann. Nocturne in
G Minor by Chopin. Bach's French Suite, No. 2.
Third Year.
Memorization and performance in public of an individual
recital program. Chopin's Nocturnes, Waltzes and Ballads. J.
S. Bach's Well Tempered Clavichord. Beethoven Sonatas. Mendelssohn's
Concerto, opus 25 first movement. Liszt and studies
from the modern composers.
THEORETICAL SUBJECTS.
Musical Essentials and Theory of Interpretation.
