COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES
types of Old Testament poetry are presented. The material in
the Chronicles and Kings accounts relating to the lives of David
and Solomon is brought out in connection with Psalms, Proverbs
and the Song of Solomon. Job will receive large attention.
363.-Prophetic Books of the Old Testament. This course
gives a brief review of the conditions under which the prophets
spoke, which are emphasized in Bible 343. The major emphasis
is upon the profound messages of God through the prophets, and
the application of those principles to modern times. The social
and religious values of these books are emphasized by outside
reading assignments and lectures.
373.-The Messianic Hope of Israel and Its Fulfillment In
Jesus of Nazareth. The hope of Israel is considered briefly and
in detail study is given to the life and teaching of Christ as it fulfilled
this hope and met the deep, profound need of humanity
for a Savior. This course is one of microscopic exegesis. References
are freely made to the best encyclopedias and commentaries,
and special emphasis is laid upon the application of the
life and teaching of Christ to the problems of our own time.
383.-Acts and the Epistles of Paul. A detailed study of the
development of the early church and contents and messages of
each of the letters from Romans through Philemon. Hebrews is
studied in the next course.
393.-Hebrews to Revelation. An exposition of the New
Testament books from Hebrews to the close with an application
of the teaching to us.
392.-Course in Christian Evidences. The several schools of
modern thought are considered in their history, their values, and
their relation to Christianity. The place of the Super-natural
and the mission of Jesus are studied. The place and power of
Christianity is noted. The moral value of faith and the Christian
virtues is considered, and the content of Christian experience
is inductively evaluated. The essentials or fundamentals of the
Christian faith are pointed out. Two hours a week.
CHURCH HISTORY.
255.-The beginning and history of the early Christian movement,
the Zwinglian reformation and the rise of the several great
movements of Protestantism.
212.-Geography of Bible Lands. This course will emphasize
the topography, the political divisions, the economic geography,
