ABILENE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE
392.-Educational Literature. This course will be a general
summary of educational literature in the U. S.. The principal
work of the course will be the preparation of an acceptable thesis
on some important educational subject. Required of all seniors
who major in Education. No others admitted. Given only in the
(2) SPECIAL COURSES.
(a) For Rural Teacher Training.
142. Observation of Teaching. This is an elementary course
in observation, setting forth particularly the HOW of observation.
It is intended for those first year students who expect to be in
college only one year and who expect to teach next year. The
work of this course consists of class room discussions, lectures,
individual reports of observations and occasional written tests.
(Education 143 should accompany this course. Also 113 and 123
should precede or accompany this course.) Text: The Observation
of Teaching, Maxwell.
143.-Special Methods for Rural and Other Elenientary
Schools. The following topics will receive special attention:
Grading and classification; the daily program; methods in elementary
school subjects; correlation; using the school library;
recreation in the rural school. Texts' Charter's Teaching the
Common Branches; Woofter's Teaching in Rural Schools.
215.-Making the Rural School Function. This course is a
study of the various community activities that are usually found
in the country districts and how the rural school may assist in
these. In other words an attempt will be made in the course to
show how the school can function very affectively in the life of
the community as a whole and thus bring new life and interest to
itself. The course will consist of lectures, class reports of assigned
topics and a short paper.
(b) Courses for Elementary Teacher Training.
122A-Games for Children. Especially for those students
who intend to teach. Ball games and various others will be
122B.-Games. Continuation of Education 122A.
122C.-Continuation of 122B. Folk games of different countries
and school plays and entertainments will be studied.
123.-Management and Organization. Text: Schoolroom
