make up about one-half or two-thirds of the student's work in
Facilities for Observation and Practice Teaching.
A model elementary school of three rooms is maintained on
the campus. The primary room has the first and second grades.
The intermediate room has grades three, four and five. The
grammar school room has grades six and seven. A kindergarten
department was added 1923-24. Each of these rooms will be in
charge of a specially trained critic teacher. It is the purpose to
make this a model school where student-teachers may see expert
teaching done under average conditions. After much observation
and careful preparation student-teachers will be permitted to do
teaching under the supervision and the direction of the critic
teacher. Students who expect to do high school teaching will
find in the Academy ample opportunity for observation and
practice teaching. Education students will also have the privilege
of observing the work of the public schools both in the city of
Abilene and in nearby rural schools.
