I. DEPARTMENT OF ANCIENT LANGUAGES.
112.-Preparatory Greek Course. No credit is given for
this course taken alone. Two hours a week given to this
course will enable the student to get a grasp of the elements
of the language so that he may use lexicons and grammars to
some advantage should he have no more Greek in school; but
this course is given in an effort to make the First Year (Greek
113,123, and 133) easier and to prevent so many failures there.
It is thought that this preliminary study will amply repay the
student and that it will give him a good start that will enable
him to be master of the later work in Greek, rather than become
lost in mass of it.
122.-Preparatory Greek Course, continuation of 112.
132.-Preparatory Greek Course, continuation of 122.
113.-This is a college course for beginners. The work is
thorough and confined to the rudiments of the language. Text:
Allen, First Year Greek.
123.-This is a continuation of Greek 113. A large volume
of work will be done.
133.-A continuation of Greek 123. Some reading in
Xenophon's Anabasis the latter part of the term.
213.-Anabasis. More than two books of the Anabasis
will be covered. At first a close study of forms is made. Goodwin,
Greek Grammar is reviewed closely. Composition in
Greek is given to meet the needs of the class. Rapid reading
closes the term.
223.-Odyssey. Books I and II or this amount of reading
from other books will be read. The needs of the class will
determine the emphasis. Grammar and composition are included.
233.-Greek Literature. This is a course open to all college
students, regardless of their knowledge of the language.
