This will be supplemented by studies of easily isolated characters
in families investigated by the student. Texts: Walter,
Genetics; Davenport, Heredity in Its Relation to Eugenics.
Prerequisite, Zoology 113, 123, 133, or Botany 145.
355.-Economic Zoology. A study of the different animal
groups from the economic point of view. This course is
planned to build on the student's previous knowledge of vertebrate
animals, and a knowledge of elementary morphology
will be assumed. The various animals of Texas and especially
West Texas, will be studied in their relation to producing food,
carrying disease, and destroying crops or other animals, etc.
In addition to these animals of Texas, a brief general study
will be made of animal ecology in the country as a whole.
In addition to the study of economic importance in each case,
a study of life-history and physiology will be made. Prerequisite,
nine hours in General Zoology.
115.-Descriptive Chemistry. A thorough introduction to
the fundamental principles of inorganic chemistry. Three
hours lecture-recitation and six hours laboratory.
'125.-Continuation of course 115. Completion of Descriptive
Chemistry. Thoroughness in laboratory stressed.
This course must be completed before credit is given for 115.
Three hours lecture-recitation and six hours laboratory.
235.-Food Analysis. A practical course in the study of a
large number of food products as to their calorific value, contents,
adulteration and general use. Three hours lecture and
six hours laboratory. Prerequisites, Chemistry 115-125.
315-325.-Elementary Organic Chemistry. Courses especially
prepared to meet the requirements of a Pre-Medical
course. Three hours lecture and six hours laboratory. Prerequisites,
113.-General Physics. The course deals with a good
introduction to the fundamentals of physics. Lectures, experiments,
problems, oral and written tests. Three hours lecturerecitation.
Two hours laboratory. No credit until the following
two courses are taken.
