Art Awards.-Each year at the annual student exhibition awards
will be made for outstanding work in oil, water color, charcoal,
pencil, and pen and ink.
The Dean's Award.-Each year Dean Walter H. Adams gives a
medal to that member of the graduating class who in the judgment
of a committee of the faculty has shown the greatest improvement
as a student in Abilene Christian College.
Loan Funds
The Herschel I. North Loan Fund.-This fund of five hundred
dollars was given in February, 1927, by Mrs. H. I. North in memory
of her husband. It is administered by a committee composed of the
President of the Board of Directors and the President and Dean of
the College. This money is loaned to worthy students at a low rate
of interest.
Hudspeth Loan Fund.-In November, 1922, Mrs. A. J. Hudspeth
of Valley View, Texas, started this fund with a gift of one hundred
dollars. This fund has been merged with the Abilene Christian College
Loan Fund which was started during Lecture Week, 1922, and
now amounts to over nine hundred dollars. This money is loaned to
worthy students who are unable to attend school otherwise.
"W" Club Loan Fund.-On June 11, 1922, the "W" Club set aside
the sum of $87.50 as a permanent fund to be loaned to worthy
young women students of Abilene Christian College. This fund now
amounts to approximately $700. It is loaned at 5 per cent interest.
Maynet Thomas Baley Loan Fund.-Because of her interest in
young people and because of her desire to help Abilene Christian
College better serve those who wish to get a college education in a
Christian environment, Mrs. J. C. Thomas established in 1936 the
Maynet Thomas Baley loan fund with a gift of $500, honoring her
daughter, Mrs. Clarence E. Baley, who is Associate Professor of
English in Abilene Christian College.
The Harley Woodward Fund for Christian Evangelism.-The late
Mrs. E. F. Woodward, of Houston, Texas, established in Abilene
Christian College the "Harley Woodward Loan Fund." This fund
is to assist young people to attend Abilene Christian College so
that they may better prepare themselves for Christian work in
the church. This money is loaned to worthy students-members of
the church-at a low rate of interest.
The accumulated interest from this Fund becomes a
scholarship fund to assist orphans and other very worthy students,
who are preparing to give themselves wholly to the work of the20
