Introduction to use of data processing in the production and distribution of
management information within the business organization. A first course in
the fundamental concepts of computer equipment and programs and the
theory of information systems. This course introduces problem solving
techniques, flow charting, number systems and program coding in COBOL
and BASIC. CREDIT 3 S.H.
220. Business Problem Programming (3-2) 1, II, S
Introduction to computer language, primarily COBOL. Stresses the structure
and design of computer programs using the business oriented language
COBOL, and other languages. Structured programming techniques
are introduced using both on-line and batch processing computer systems.
The student is expected to demonstrate a basic competency in using the
computer to solve various problem situations. Prerequisite: ISQS 220.

225. MicroComputer Applications (3-0)
Advanced concepts for various software applications will be introduced.
The student is expected to demonstrate proficiency in the use of word
processing, spread sheet and data base software. Additional software
systems will be introduced as time permits.
320. Concepts of Computer Languages: Advanced COBOL and
Assembly Language Concepts (3-0)
Advanced programming concepts using the COBOL language. Editing
techniques are introduced. Structured coding efficiencies are stressed.
Sequential and key index file concepts are introduced. Hardware design
and machine coding is explained using assembly language concepts.
Elementary programs and subroutines are developed using this low level
language.
322. Business Statistics (3-0) I, II, S
Survey of methods of collection analysis, presentation, and interpretation
of business information. Includes methods of sampling, uses of averages,
construction of graphs, index numbers, probability, distributions, hypothesis
testing, analysis of variance, chi-square, and correlation and regression
analysis. Prerequisite: Math 130, Math 131, and junior standing. CREDIT 3

420. Data Base Management Systems (3-2) II
Introduction to the concepts of data base oriented information systems.
Stresses the effects of the integrated information system on the decisionmaking
process of the company. Data base theory, data base structures
and general file considerations are incorporated into the course. Participation
as a member of a programming team in the development of real-world
production programs using advanced COBOL coding techniques is accomplished
in the lab. Prerequisite: ISQS 320. CREDIT 3 S.H.
424. Management Information Systems - Analysis and Design (3-0)11
Comprehensive study of organization needs for information and integrated
management information systems; stresses the analysis, design and reporting
phases of this function of systems analysis and design. Prerequisite:
ISQS 220, 320 or Senior Standing. CREDIT 3 S.H.
426. Management of Data Processing within the Corporation (3-0) I
Comprehensive study of the data processing function within the corporation.
Obtaining computer services, hardware operation, software development,
training and management of personnel, quality control and security measures
are all topics for class consideration. The course is enhanced by
field trips to operational computer centers of varying sizes. Prerequisite:

499. Guided Study
An independent study to allow a student to devote studies to an area of
information systems not covered in class. Prior arrangements must be
made with a faculty member before registering for this course.
522. Advanced Statistics (3-0)
A study of advanced statistical concepts including experimental designs,
analysis of variance, regression (linear and nonlinear), correlation analysis,
business fluctuations, forecasting and Bayesian statistics. Prerequisite:

A study of the production/operations function in business including the
creation of both goods and services. Study is centered on design, location,
and operation of the production/operations management system and its
interrelationship with other systems in the organization. Prerequisite: MGMT

Development of personnel work, organization and functions of personnel
management, with special emphasis on job analysis, employment procedures,
compensation, training programs, and collective bargaining. Prerequisite:

335. Human Behavior in Organizations (3-0) II
The organization as a social system; mutual and adverse interests of
supervisor and worker; employee motivation and job satisfaction; leadership
and communication; supervisor ethics and other aspects of the

An examination of business and its interrelationship with the physical,
social, and cultural aspects of society. Topics include business ideology,
ethics, operational consequences, and responsibilities within a changing,

Formulation and interpretation of policy, executive responsibilities and
decision-making; administrative practices and business ethics; lectures,
