Mission 3
facilitate the work of the faculty, the school provides necessary
library resources, computer facilities, classrooms,
laboratories, and teaching aids and materials.
Administration
The university continuously evaluates every phase of its
operations to ensure that its mission is being fulfilled in
keeping with available resources, technologies, opportunities,
and constituencies. The university has a clearly
defined, efficient system of organization and governance
based on the cooperative roles of the Board of Trustees,
the administration, the faculty, and the staff. The school
maintains a comprehensive system of goal-oriented planning,
budgeting, reporting, and institutional research so
that resources may be allocated effectively. All institutional
advancement and all fiscal operations are undertaken to
support the academic programs to the highest possible
level using sound business practices. Achieving the mission
of the school is also facilitated by maintaining good
relations with students, alumni, the church, educational
and cultural organizations, civic organizations, governmental
agencies, donors, and the general public.
Campus Environment
The environment on campus and in classrooms and dormitories
facilitates learning, personal development, physical
well-being, and growth in Christian character. It also
encourages an open-minded search for truth. Since ACU
is a residential university, students have many opportunities
to meet others with similar interests and goals and
to develop lifelong friendships. The university provideshousing, food services, safety and health services, cultural
opportunities, and worthwhile extracurricular activities.
Students
One of the most attractive characteristics of Abilene Christian
University is the quality of its student body. For the
most part, the students are well prepared academically,
strong in character, and highly motivated. The school
usually enrolls students from all 50 states and from about
35 foreign countries. An important objective of ACU's student
recruitment program is to attract a broad spectrum
of well-prepared students from various cultures, economic
levels, and age groups. To this end, the school provides
high quality programs for student financial aid, academic
advising, personal counseling, career guidance, and alumni
placement.
Students who are found to have deficiencies in their
academic preparation are required to pass remedial courses
before proceeding with their chosen programs. These
courses, as well as special programs to challenge gifted students,
are served by a well-equipped Learning Enhancement
Center. For exceptionally bright students, there is a
comprehensive Honors Program.Christian Service and Leadership
Abilene Christian University educates its students for
Christian service and leadership throughout the world. It
gives its faculty, administration, staff, and students opportunities
to lead and to serve in a wide range of church,
club, community, state, national, and international activities.
In addition, the university itself provides leadership
and service to its various constituencies by offering
opportunities for interaction and enrichment through lectureships,
conferences, workshops, seminars, forums, summer
camps, and intercollegiate athletic events and by
making available libraries, museums, dramatic productions,
concerts, art exhibits, lectures, public radio, educational
television, consultations, publications, statistical
services, and the results of pertinent research.
Graduates of Abilene Christian University are found in all
parts of the world. The university motivates its students,
gives them the necessary international perspective and
cross-cultural sensitivity, and offers a wide variety of courses
to prepare them to live and work in various cultures.
Many ACU students participate in foreign campaigns and
missions during summers and holidays. Others study overseas
through ACU's Campuses Abroad program, and
ACU's international students have a broadening influence
on the other students. A large number of faculty members
travel widely throughout the world, enlarging their own
perspectives and sharing their expertise with graduates
and friends of the university and with citizens of other
lands.
