COUNTRY EDITOR
TRUE STORY had been forgotten until it was brought to
THIS
mind last week by a political drama involving two candidates for
the Speaker of the House post in the Texas Legislature
In recent years almost every Shivercrat running for office has parroted
the old Shivers invention labor captive in describing his opposition
Democrats were amused last week when two arch conservatives
each seeking the Speakers post locked horns
Both have been guilty of knifing Democratic candidates with the
labor smear As often is the case labor has no love for either candi
date and is In the position of having to select the lesser of two evils
This time labor is supporting conservative Waggoner Carr although
only last session labor attacked Carr for his antilabor committee appointments
And conservative Joe Burkett of Kerrville is now calling
Carr a captive candidate of the CIO The Kerrville representative demanded
that Carr make public his deal with the Texas labor bosses
All of which is quite amusing to the ordinary Texas Democrat who
recognizes the inconsistency of those who attempt to prejudice and deceive
by petty name calling
If Shivers and Price Daniel ever tangle which isnt likely to happen
no doubt theyll dub each other captives of the CIO
COUNTRY EOITOR
DOT ORGANIZATION which has felt the wrath of Brainwashers
THE
washers Inc the daily press for the past several months has
much in common with Nationalist China which is back on the front pages
these days
When the Communists overran China they drove Nationalist President
Chiang KaiShek and his loyal followers to the island of Formosa
There the loyalists have conducted their government in exile refusing
to have their birthright stolen by a group of wellorganized bandits and
gangsters whose god is force
The United States government continues to recognize Nationalist
China as the official representative of the Chinese people To do otherwise
would be to give respectability to Red Premier Chou EnLai and his
gang of thieves
No doubt the Communists term President Chiang and his loyalists
a splinter group And certainly they are dedicated to wiping out
Chiang and the Nationalists on Formosa Since the Communists control
the mainland they could ordinarily afford to forget about the relatively
small island of Formosa the homo of Chiangs splinter group But they
recognize that splinters often have a way of irritating and the safest
thing for the Reds to do is to wipe out all organized opposition that
someday might stage a comeback
COUNTRY EDITOR
CHINESE situation almost exactly parallels the political
THE
situation in Texas In 195G a minority of Shivercrats like the
Chinese Communists with the aid of many Republicans Russia in this
instance overran the State Democratic convention in Fort Worth and
seized control by fraudulent means a dishonest Shiversappointed credentials
committee did the trick
The ordinary Democrats were driven out of their own party by Price
Daniel Chou EnLai and forced to set up their own govenment in exile
the Democrats of Texas
Price Daniel Chou EnLai and Jake Pickle Mao Tsetung fear the
DOT Formosa because they know it is a potential threat Chou En
Lai like Joseph Stalin and Adolph Hitler knows that tho outs must
be liquidated or else someday they might become the Ins In Germany
and Russia they liquidated the outs by blood purges firing squads or
execution chambers Because such tactics are at present illegal in Texas
Price and his political gangsters have done the next best thing they
have tried to purge the opposition by character assassination
For a solid month preceding the precinct and county conventions
front page editorials in the daily papers attempted to slander the DOT
by calling It every evil term this side of Moscow The DOT reported
the dallies is composed of the NAACP the CIOAFL leftwing radicals
and Latin American extremists
This they said of a group of Texas Democrats who had stuck by the
party in 1952 and 1950 had had their birthright stolen at Fort Worth
and who are now demanding 1 seating of legally elected delegates to
all conventions and 2 selectionof each districts committeeman and
commltteewoman In a democratic manner at the district caucus as prescribed
by law Yet Price Daniel and the dally papers succeeded partially
In convincing the masses that the DOT Is a group of leftwing
reprobates

Soy Bean Acreage
Good Says Rodgers
There are about seven or eight
thousand acres of soybeans in Swisher
County this year according to
County Agent Bill Rodgers There is
a good bean set in most fields and
they are looking good with possibility
of high yields througli out the
country
It is important that growers remember
that soybeans do not have
a water cutoff date he continued
The peak of water consumption is
from flowering to the soft dough
stage Water should be applied until
the pods ar ewell filled Maturity
will not be shortened by withholding
irrigation water only the yield will
be affected by this method Remember
that proper irrigation from
bloom until maturity will determine
the yield a grower will receive
It is also important that extreme
care should be taken at harvest in
order to reduce the number of
cracked beans Soybeans delivered
to an elevator with a high percent
of cracks will be severely docked
Cracked beans increase moisture
and create storage problems Quality
of the oil is lowered Oil in some
cases may become rancid and cannot
be processed for food or feed
