levelland Ladies Demand Blackout
On Coverage Of Bridge Parties
By ORLIN BREWER
The Levelland Sun
The dark shroud of censorship and secrecy has been dropped
over Lcvcllands cardplaying v omcn
The gals no longer want the dark secrets of the bridge tabic
particularly who showed up for
a session of gossip and cards
known to the public
Are not the bridge club meetings
a legitimate social activity in the city
of Levelland
If they arc then the local newspaper
should by all rights continue
coverage of these meetings
just as it does of other social activitiesIf theyre not then weve got a lot
of local women who ought to give
their bridge tables the same treatment
Levelland slot machines got a
few years ago
Are the bridge club meetings proper
The women have given no In
dication they plan to disband or give
up their afternoons of fun and
relaxation for any moral reasons
All theyve done is huddled and decided
that they dont want anybody
to know they spend their days
playing bridge
Why pray tell this ignorant
young scribe should these good
folks some of them recognized
as our best and most dependable
citizens carry on in the secrecy
of their homes a clandestine activ
ity of which they arc ashamed
Some of them we understand
are members in good standing of
the church we attend Others are
members of other churches
Some of them may even be Suiv
day School teachers or have a mate
who is a Sunday school teacher
Publicity about their bridge play
ing might were told have an unfavorable
effect on their relations
with the people in the church which
they attend 0
Now really
Lets get our heads Into this
If these people arc active church
members and they feel lhat its
wrong for them to play bridge and
be active in the church then they
should make a very crucial decision
either give up bridge or tho
church whichever means the most
to them
They shouldnt take aim at tho
local newspaper which is trying to
do a job of covering local social
events along with sports and activities
of government
If the good people choose bridge
their church is better off and they
too will probably be happier
Living lives on both sides of tho
fence can be a conscience splitting
proposition anyway A tight pious
smile on Sunday doesnt mean very
much if the girdle of leligious living
hits the floor the moment a
persons home from church
There is a good possiblity that
some of those people feel they have
a perfect right to attend church

Only the Individual knows his relations

whether his prayers get through to
God and whether playing bridge
has anything to do with the situationBut pray good folks dont ask
the local newspaper to compromise
your sins Were gonna print any

youre going to get your name in
