OTHER DISCUSSIONS we have pointed out how the Conserva
IN the word from the ncrmal
lives we use a capital O to distnguish

desirable words and by brainwashing turned them Into contemptible
and cv sounding expressions samples Include dogooder nigger

In these days what do we ratd more than people who so about

Dut because most peop e have beerr brainwashed by the Conservative

ITER THREE of the darkest years this nation has ever known
administration that1 couldnt ever ccme to grips
a donothing
with the prcblem a new Presldeit Initiated what he called a New
Deal back in 19JD
In thsse days had we asked any businessman any farmer any
white collar worker what we needed
laborer a y professional man or
most hi wculd have said in effect a new deal Something HAD to
he done to meet new problems in a new day Lotting nature take its
course letting the law of supfly and demand solve the problems
werent sufficient The nation needed smething more than the glib
prumlse that prosperity is just around the corner
What was the New Deal
Jt was the recognition that prosperity must begin at the bottom
and not at the top
It was the restoration of confidence In our government and cur institu
t ns particularly the banks And government was the only agency
through which this confidence could be restoredit Initiated the TD1C
It wus the recognition that man must have a minimum of security
when misfortunes strike
It was pulling the farmer out of bankruptcy enabling him la
rrorate according to the principles of sound business and not according
to the whms of speculators and nature giving him a more re
lnbl method of controllng production than simply the law of supply
and demand which is found nowhere in the Bible or in the U S Con
sticutioh
It was giving oldsters something to look forward to In their sunset
house or dependency upon a soninlaw
voir other than the poor
it was setting up machinery to cushion future recessions and try
to prevent future depressions
No cne cursed security in those days
THIS DAY of full stomachs two and three car garages and otliT
EN niceties of modern living we sneer at the expression Roosevelts
New Deal
All we want U for the government to let us alcne so we can eny
our gadgets we say In effect We want all the benefits that hae
accrued from the New Deal while we bite the hand that gave us thise
benefit
he Conservatives during the 193219G0 era failed
to repeal even cne New Deal measure
They wouldnt have daredl
The peple hive indicated over and over that they don t want to go
back to the preNew Deal era
TRUMAN came ahng with his Fair Deal No wonder the

deal How many times have the Texas oil and gas Industries sent Ambassadors
have
their Ictiylsts to Austin to seek a fair deal How many times
yju heard the NAM or the USCC campaign for a fair deal for all the
poflc evtn farmers and laborers
Uttle wonder the Conservitlves saw red when a new Prrsdent
advocated a fair deal
1952 WHEN the Conservatives took over they offered no new

or fair deals but they did give us a slogan with which to remember
tem Whats gocd for General Motors is good for America
This paragraph is necessarily shcrt
OHN KENNEDY stood In a Los Angeles bowl shortly after his
nomhuitin fcr the Presidency In 1930 and coined perhaps one of
the most appropriate scgans of the age
After paying respect to the New Deal and the Fair Deal he peered
Into the future the most challenging future Iri the history of manknd
He faced a day when nun were wondering n5t If we would ever set
loot en the moon rather when it would happen
He faced a day when almost within his administration college
enrollment would double
He faced a day when the number of persons over C5 would almost
dcuble within a decade
He faced a day which demanded more and better training than had
fcccT given youngsters of the past and at a time when gocd teachers
are leaving the profession in droves and replacements are not being
trained
He faced a day In which the worlds destruction Is as much a possibility
as the explosion of a hydrogen bomb
He faced a day of automaton in which millions may eventually
lose their jobs if a program of retraining and adjustment is not
initiated
He faced a day when action must be taken to curb the advancing
rate cf delinquency and crime
He faced a day when one fourth of all the people ever born are
now living creating what we call a papulation explosion
ONE OF THESE problems of the New Frontier faced George
Washington Abraham Lincoln or even Franklin Roosevelt Just
as the problems cf today are different So must be the solutions
Lincln never had to worry about health benefits for the aged because
too few people lived long enough In his era to need these benefits
Lined n never had to worry about ad to education because only a
h andful of his generation sought an education
Whether we love Kennedy or hate himr we cannot avoid the problems
of the New Frontier Kennedy didnt create them He only labeled
them They wont gs away if1 we Just close our eyes and dream of the
good old days of McKmley
But do you know what the Conservatives did when they met in
Washington recently
They decided to scuttle the New Frontier and substitute of all
things the Old Frontierl
Taking trTeir eyes off the space age the population explosion the
doubling of the oldsters In number the world revolution they fjcused
the trains making their way across
their attention once more on wagon
the eld frontier perhaps to seek gjd in California
At least thats the implication of eld frontier If we are to consUcr
it the opposite of new frontier
Maybe theyve been watching loo many TV westerns
Its 19G2 and they are dreaming of the Old Frontier
As our Conservative candidate for congressmanatlarge said recently
If elected I will vote against virtually all federal programs initiated
since Herbert Ho ver I would do away with both crop production controls
and price supports letting the law of supply and demand operate
I will cjpise appropriations for the HEA and the school lunch pro
F WE COULD ever level off on an even keel have all our problems
I solved perhaps we could afford a Conservative administration But

After research Morgan discovered
that there were then in the United

so long as we face new problems that are crying out fr answers new
frontiers that challenge the very souls of man we can no more affcrd
a Conservative administration either Republican or Democratic than
we can afford t3 turn over our space program to Rip Van Winkle
We have Conservatives seeking offices at this time who would tackle
1982 problems with 1702 methods They believe in Robert Welch Etfwln
A Walker Wes Izzard and God And in that order
INo doubt they would slve cur problems by pretending they
dont exist and 2 by censorship of the news media by censoring
Chet Huptley TV programs that come into Amarlllo by threatening
communications media if they report any opinion other than the far
right
Theyve made what they have courtesy of the New Deal and Fair
Deal Now that they have a second pot as Editor John McCarty of
Tho Amar Ho Citizen implied last week they are crying their eyes out
against the scurce from whence their fortunes came
