.waxahachie, Tex., Jan. 11.Mr.
L; C. Todd received a completed
picture of the waxahaceie cotton factory
to-day and placed it on exhibition
in a public place. It was made by
cotton mill architects. The picture
attracted a good deal of attention.
The collection committee is hard atwork in the matter of getting up funds
to build the mill.
,Ennis, Tex., Jan. 10.-The city
council held an adjourned meeting
last night and adopted a resolution
sufficiently radical to gratify t he
strongest re4renchers. The mayOr's
salary was reduced from $25 a
month to $2.50 a month, aldermen
from $7.50 to $2.50. street overseer
from $50 to $35. The office of
secretary was abolished and his

t takes all kinds of people to make
a world. There is a poverty which
is noble and dignified, contented,
helpless and godly. And there is
a poverty mean and envious and
cringing., There are rich people
who are careless, luxurious, lazy
and useless. And there are rich
people.who earned every dollar by
honest means, who help others,
who live unassuming and useful
lives, regarding their riches as a
trust fund and knowing that to
whom much is given, of them shall
much be required.-Dallas News.-A

i\ -;An old bachlor recently bought a
pair of socks. There was nothing
strange about this, but what makes
the occasion worthy of note was the
faet that he found in the toe of one
of them a slipopf paper on which was
written: "I am a young lady of 20
and would like to correspond with a
bachelor with a view of matrimony,"
and signed with the address of a
young lady. After due deliberation,
the friend concluded to write the
maker of the socks. ^In a few days
he got an answer to 'his letter. "I
was married flue years ago last
Christmas," The merchant who
sold the socks did not advertise.

Consumptive
Did you ever see one ?
Did you ever hear of one ? I
Most certainly not. Consumption
is a disease that ;
invariably causes loss of
flesh.
If you are light in weight,
even if your cough is only
a slight one, you should
certainly take
cotts Emusiion
of cod lIver oil with hypopbosphites.
No remedy
is such a perfect preventive
to consumption. Just
the moment your throat
begins to weaken and you
find you are losing flesh,
you should begin to take it.
And no other remedy
has cured so many cases
of consumption. Unless
you are far advanced with
this disease, Scott's Emulsion
will hold every inducement
to you for a
perfect cure. ;

What a hcwl would go up if the
newspapers were to criticise the individuals
as freely as the individuals
criticise the newspapers. Every issue
of a newspaper is a mantle of char
ity and the matter which is left out
I-truth and gossip-would often
equal in volume the matter published.
If an editor were to get out a
"cold fact" edition some day and
then clime up a tree and watch result
-whew! what a terrible state of affairs.
he would witness-if he lived
to see anything. When you feel
like criticising the editor remember
how much he suppresses that he does
not publish, and be as charitable as
he.-Ex,Ripans Tabules cure indigeston.

THE report to the department
of the Cuban evacuation commission
is not very commendatory
of Gen. Brooke's tactics,
which they say if kept up will
result in a repetition of belligerent
conditions on that island under
Spanish rule, but if the Cubans
are dealt with fairly the American
army may withdraw from
the island before the next rainy
season. This government should
see to it that our generals do not
employ Spanish methods in dealing
