Was Speeding
The son of Mayor Ross Rogers of
Amarillowho miraculously escaped
death when liU 1939 Chevrolet
coupe struck the dip at the Inter-
section of Main and Commerce
streets in Miami was tearing
through town at between 75 and 80
miles an hour it was estimated by
officers according to the Miami
Chief
As young Mr Rogers was enroute
to Higgins and would have soon
reached Canadian his speeding car
might have killed some innocent
person here had he not met with
his unfortunate accident sooner
If anyone deserves severe criticism
and condemnation for endangering
the lives of his feIlowcitlzen3 it is
the public official or members of his
family They if anyone should set
an example of lawabiding citizen

In Hospital
Gerald Sprague of Canadian
suffered a broken leg in an automo-
bile accident between here and
Perryton Saturday night
With him at the time was Ted
Slavln of Perryton who escaped
with minor cuts and bruises
William Hampton Oliver
William Hampton Oliver was born
at Lebanon Missouri on February
151857 He died at his home here
Friday at tho age of 82 years 5
months and 2G days He is survived
by his adopted children Sam
Lisenbee and Mrs May Hardin
Mr Oliver came to Texas in 1687
and moved to Hemphill county in
1907 He joined the Canadian Meth
odist church on January 20 1918
during the pastorate of the Rev-
erend J E Stevens He wai pro-
foundly religious and extremely con
siderate of other people He leaves a
host of devoted friends
The funeral was held at the Meth
odist church Sunday at 400 p m
