If the United States government Is to
continue to distribute seeds, the suggestion
of C. A. Moser, Dallas county agricultural
agent, Is excellent, namely, that the dis-
tribution should be through county agent*
to farmers pledged to use them under di-
rections, rather than indiscriminately
through congress. Hut Mr. Muscr overlooks
the purpose for which the seeds are din
trlbuted; tt is to advance tho Interests of
congressmen, not those of agriculture
Moreover, much of the seed distributed
comes in handy for bird and chicken feed.

"I am ready to put my experience

Not over $1000 capital will be re-

Ideal location, Under such favorable
range conditions old and young tur-
keys can secure practically all their
living from waste grain and insects

Corn Cribs.
One farmer declares that he has
not been troubled with rats for over
twenty years, because he keeps plenty
of cats and has the corn crib floor so
high off the ground that the cats can
f;et at the rats if they try to locate
there.—Temple Telegram.
That Is a sensible way to bulhl corn
cribs. Most corn cribs, to be sure, are
built low on the ground, so that rats
may find snug harbors and depredate
upon the tfrain without fear of their
natural enemies. We do not mean by
jthis that folks who build corn cribs
I close to the ground are not smart, or
| that they are In league with the rats.
| What we mean is that making corn
[cribs safe for rats is a bad way to
treat corn, even though it is certainly
a good way to treat rats, if being good
to rats is tlie main object of the op-
| eration. Every year rats destroy
; $200,000,000 worth of good food; food
grown and harvested for the behoof
I of mankind. It does look like a man
j who knows how to raise grain and
I house it would also know how to pro-
jtect it from rats; but mostly he
I doesn't. He admits, w ithout argu-
ment, that the rats are shrewder than
he is, and lets it go at that. Of course
it is 110 part of the rat's business to
deny its own superiority, and the re-
sult is that the rat goes ahead and
takes free board and lodging year
after year. If half the grain that is
! annually consumed or destroyed by
1 rats were given to the poor, the poor
j would soon be able to quit work alto-
gether.—State 1'ress in Dallas News.
