The play by Ernest Thompson is
about Ethel and Norman Thayer, who
are returning to their summer home
on Golden Pond for the 48th year.
He is a retired professor, nearing 80,
with heart palpitations and a failing
memory - but still as tart-tongued,
observant and eager for life as ever.
She, 10 years younger and the perfect
foil for him, delights in all the small

things that have enriched and continue,
to enrich their long life together;.
Their divorced, middle-aged1
daughter and her dentist fiance visit
the elderly couple, then go off toEu^
rope, leaving his teenage son behindi
for the summer. The boy quickly
becomes the "grandchild" the couple
has longed for, and as Norman reyels
in taking his ward fishing and thrust-
ing good books at him, he also learns
some lessons about modern teenage
awareness - and slang - in return.,
In the end, as the summer wanes,-,
so does their brief idyll, and in the
final, deeply moving moments of
the play, the couple is brought even
closer together by the incidence pf -a
mild heart attack. Time, they know, is,
against them, but the years have been
good and, perhaps, another sumrper
on Golden Pond still awaits.

The average adult body holds 10-
12 pints of blood, and some of yours
is needed.
A Coastal Bend Blood Center
(CBBC) mobile unit will be accept-
ing blood in Port Aransas from 11
a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 19.
It will be at the Family Center IGA
parking lot, 418 S. Alister St.
The CBBC partners with commu-
nities to save lives by providing a safe
supply of blood, blood components,
and related services to patients and
hospitals in the Coastal Bend.
Several blood types are needed
with supplies currently at a critical or
minimal level. Those with A-, B- and
AB- are critical; A+ is at minimal. A
blood donation from as many who
can donate will help replenish the
supply for the area.
All donors will receive a t-shirt and
a Whataburger coupon for his or her
donation.
Donors must be in general good
health, 17 years of age or older,
weigh at least 110 pounds, have

or piercing at a state licensed facility
still may be eligible to donate.
Requirements include providing
name, address and a photo ID (such
as a driver's license) and answering
questions about health, medical his-
tory, current medications and recent
surgeries. These questions ensure
donors are healthy enough to give
blood and that blood will be safe
to give to patients who need it. The
actual blood draw takes less than ten
minutes.
