Tk* Band Kntartallred.
evening last the Bren-
ham laght (Juard Band were out
P^»»
unprepared for them,
by raaaou of their having given no
intimation of their intention, was
Mr. Ed. Hoffman's. Mr. Hoffman,
however, desiring to show his ap-
preciation of ths splendid music thev
diMOVlwd extorted the promise
from them that they would return
TbtflMday night. Thursday night
thejr were on hand, and to put it
mildly and modestly, Mr. Hoffman
was this time amply prepared for
them.
A keg of beer was on tap, cigars
were set out, wine wa« passed around
aud the health of the host as well as
the "luck" of the band watt drank
with glasses tilled to the brim. But
Mr. Hoffman had not made all the
preparation alone, for when the bo\s
were invited iuto the dining room
the tempting lunch that met their
astonished gaze gave evidence of the
preparation by the deft hands of Lin
most estimable wife, and the boys
partook most heartily of the delight-
ful repast, frequently regaling them
■elves with the tempting viands.
It was a most enjoyable entertain-
ment, in which the members of the
band, individually and collectively,
we have no doubt, will join the Ban
see in indulging the hope that our
genial host and fair hostess will liw
long and remain kindly inclined to
occasionally indulge the baud in
such royal entertainment.
All those who intend to go out of
the Slato on holiday excursions are
requested to let Capt. Sloan know
in time, that be may procure tickets
for thetn, or special coaches, if nec-
essary. He has tickets to a great
jnauy prominent points, but can't
keep them for everywhere, though
with a few days' notice can get them
and save you paying local rates to
some other starting point.

The residence of Mr. T. J. Pam-

narrowly escaped being consumed
by fire Friday morning. Constable
Boyd was passing the house and
discovered the smoke coming out
through the shingles on the roof of
the kitchen, quickly dismounted,
railed assistance and soon extiu
guished the tire that was burning
l>etwcen the ceiling and roof. The
discovery was just iu time to avert
a serious conflagration, as the fire
would have been beyond control in
a very few minutes longer.
