A Lexington Special says: Sam
Behrenger was accidently shot
through the head Saturday afternoon
by \Villiain Loud of Giddings while
taking a drink together in a saloon.
Mr. Loud's pistol feel from his pocket
to the tloor, with the above result.
Behrenger is still living, with little
hope of recovery. The substance is
continually oozing out of the wound.
He has never spoken sinc9 the pistol
was discharged.
Mr. Loud seems to he very much
troubled over tho sail affair.

Mr. J. Karl Preston, of Navasota,
was in the city yesterday.
Miss Ethel Muse Gillespie, of Cam-
eron, returned home yesterday.
County Attorney It. J Alexander,
of Burleson county, is in the city.

down to Cliappell Hill yesterday.
Mr. L. Lauderdale, of Llano, was in
the city Monday and left for St. Louis.
Messrs. C. B. Shepard and J. B.
Williams went up to Caldwell yester-

Mrs. Juo. Campbell, of Austin, is in

HEROES OF SAN JACINTO.
Movement to Build n Monument by
Daughters of the Republic.
It is learned from Mrs. J. It. Fenn,
president of San Jacinto Chapter,
Daughters of the Republic, that the a sensation in Berlin and Paris and
Jeffreys Lewis.
It is always a delight to meet old
friends after a long absence and so
the re-appearance of Miss Jell'reys
Lewis at the Grand Saturday evening
will no doubt bo a source of pleasure
to those who have already witnessed
the work of this charming and clever
actress. Her appearance here will be
doubly interesting from the fact that
she will present entirely new plays
including the great European success,
"Shattered Idols." This play created
members of the chapter contemplate
yetting up a bazaar to raise funds for
caring for and improving San Jacinto
battle ground and to erect thero a
monument to the memory of the sol-
diers of chat war, whereby Texas
achieved her independence. The la-
dies desire contributions of fancy ar-
ticles or other assistance from those
who are in sympathy with the move-
ment.
Those who want to aid the cause can
send contributions to Mrs. M. J. Bris-
coe, No. 20 Crawford, corner Capitol;
•Mrs. J. E. <»ary, No. 1003 Texas ave-
nue, or to Mrs. J. It. Fenn, No. 1117
Bell avanue, Houston. Correspond-
ence in regard to the bazaar, should
bo addressed to Mrs. M. Looscan and
it will receive prompt attention.
It is not proposed to hold the bazaar
before next October or November, but
the movement has been inaugurated
this early in order that ample time
may be had to make it one of the most
elaborate atlairs of the kind ever held
in this city.

this Club and for some time its faith-
ful and efficient Treasurer contributing
to its success and the interest of its

tion, and has been to us an inspiration
in our etlorts to entertain others and
benefit ourselves, and
Whereas it has become necessary for
