uthieran Toncorbia dTllg AUSTIN 22, TEXAS To the Council of the City of Austin: Gentlemen: We have been informed that plans are being made to build a 200 ft. super-highway on the present East Avenue or Cameron Road. We have been further informed that the construction of this super-highway will that 120 ft. be taken from the various properties on the west side of East Avenue from 19th Street north. We feel that we would a etraying a trust placed in us by the school which we contro the church which we serve if we failed to lay before the Co ncil certain pertinent facts. 1) Concordia has a 1500 ft. frontage on East Avenue. The removal of 120 ft. would reduce our tract by an amount somewhat in excess of four acres. 2) As soon as building materials are released we plan to con- struct at least tree new buildings on our campus; a gymnasium, an office building for the Texas District of the Lutheran Church, and a student activities building. In the event our plans to expand the institution by adding two junior college years become a reality, an additional dormitory will be constructed. The reduction of our campus by four acres would make this expansion extremely difficult if not impossible. 3) Our present athletic field lies in that area which would be purchased by the City in the event the highway were built. The construction of a new athletic field on the southwestern part of our campus would involve the felling of many trees, considerable hauling of dirt, and no small expenditure of money.
