Poetry Competition Open
Spring c ompetition for the
"College Students' Poetry An-
tho logy" has been announced
by Dennis Hartman, editor of
the National Poetry Press.
C o m p e t ition is open to any
student attending either junior
or senior college and closes
Nov. 5.
Poems are not limited to form
or theme but shorter works are
preferred by the board of judges
because of space limitations.
Entries must be typed or print-
ed or separate sheets of paper
and must have the author's
name, college and home ad-
dress.
Submissions are to be sent to
the offices of the press, Nat-
ional Poetry Press, 3210 Selby
Ave. , Los Angeles 34, Cal. ,
before Nov. 5.
Winning poems will appear in
the Anthology, which will be
published after Feb. 1.
Casting has been completed and
rehearsals begun for the Lamar
Tech production of " Gideon,"
which wi 11 open for a run of
three performances on Nov. 3
in Cardinal Theatre.
Headingthe cast of 24 will be
Perry N. Riley, Jr., as Gideon
and David Hooker as the” Angel."
Russell Dowden will portray
Gideon's father "Joash;" David
O'Fiel and Nolan Terrill will
be seen as Gideon's uncles,
"Helek, " and "Abimelech."
Gideon's son "Jether" will be
played by Mike Phillips, and
his two wives. "Mahlah, " and
"Tirzah" by Beverly Brisco and
Jayme Moore.
Characters outside Gideon's
family include Jim Meldrum as
" S hillem, " George Carabin as
"Jahleel." and Jack Dowding as
” Hezekiah."
Terry Ry als will be seen as
"Malchiel;" Joseph Antosiak as
"Purah;" and Ronald King as

November Meet
The Student Council for Ex-
ceptional Children will hold
its next meeting Nov. 16 at
4 p. m. in the educational
services auditorium, according
to Sue Dotson, vice president.
The council, which met Wed-
nesday , works with children
with hearing and speech de-
fects or ment ally retarded
children. The meeting will
deal w ith the introduction of
special education.
Anyone interested in joining
the council before the Nov-
ember meeting should contact
Kay Griffin, president, in
Gentry Hall or Miss Dotson.
"Zebah." William Carter will
be the Midian king "Zalmun-
na, " and Billy Jones as the
prince of Ephriam, "Shethu-
lah."
Other characters are portrayed
by Larry Williamson, Caroline
Goodrich, Ronald Sacks, Clytie
Rudeseal, Linda Tipton, £ and
Nelson Price. Dancers Therese
Porcarello and L i nda Luparello
complete the cast.

Jacob, assistant professor of
speech. 'Mrs. Vera Campbell,
assistant professor of speech, is
in charge of costumes and
RebeccaM. Obenauf, instructor
of physical education and health
for women and director of the
Cardinal Dancers, is chore-
ographer for the production.
