InEngineer’sExhibits
Featured in Engineering
Day, which is being carried
on on campus today and
tomorrow, are exhibits
furnished by several area
concerns.
The City of Houston,
Texas will furnish a scale
model water treatment
plant. This working model
will show all of the various
filtering and chemical
treatments that water
undergoes before being
used for consumption by
the public. The School of
Engineering will have on
hand a specialist in this
field to monitor the dem-
onstration.
An assortment of tools'
used in oil well perforating
and logging will be dis-
played by the McCullough
Tool Company of Beaumont
Also included in the dis -
play are tools for the
c h e m i cal cutting of pipe
and for determining the
depth at which a string of
pipe stuck in an oil well is
free.
Another area concern,
Haliburton Oil Well Ce-
menting Co., is contribu-
ting a large truck used for
cementing oil wells and
another truck also used in
the process. These trucks
are self-contained pump-
ing units and will be set up
and demonstrated as if
they were cementing an oil
well.
Ideco Oil Field Equip-
ment Co. will furnish
another truck, one which
is u s e d in covering over
an oil well no longer in
use.
An interesting feature of
Engineering Day this year
will be a life-size rocket
engine. Its component
parts and functions will'be
fully explained in lectures
by its exhibitors. The pri-
nt ary purpose of the en-
gine is to demonstrate and
measure the various per-
formance factors. It will
consume a fuel of ethyl
alcohol and 25% water
using liquid oxygen as an
oxidizer. This engine will
be one of the outstanding
exhibits of the day.

tions which will serve as
guides for the discussion
are: 1. Is the current down-
swing in the level of bus-
iness activity a true eco-
nomic recession? 2. If’this
is an economic recession,
what factors have brought
it on? 3. What action can
be and should be taken to
alleviate the recession and
prevent it from developing
into a serious depression?

Management Mee
The program and speak-
ers for the Seventh An
nual Management Confer-
ence to be held in the La-
mar Tech auditorium next
week, March 27-28, have
been announced by Mr.
Charles L. Eldridge, of the
School of Vocations, con-
ference director.
Outstanding speakers
from all over the nation
will gather here to address
supervisors and business
men from area industries.
Perhaps the most out-
standing of these speakers
is Chester "Lum" Lauck
of "Lum and Abner" fame.
Lauck is executive assis-
tant of the Continental Oil
Corporation of Houston
and has been with that firm
since 1955. In recentyears
he has traveled 10 0,000
miles speaking at dinners,
conferences, and state and
national business conven-
tions. Few people know
that he is a graduate of the
University of Arkansas
with a major in journalism.
He has done radio work
since 1930 and presently
some television work in
addition t o his executive
duties. "Lum" states that
he was raised in a wide
spot in the road in Arkan-
sas and describes himself
as a s p 1 i t personality: a
country store -keeper
using English that would
curl the ears of most any
college English professor
and, on the other hand, a
university graduate and oil
company executive.
Associates attribute his
success in the oil industry
to his natural country
store-keeper friendliness
and sincerity.
He will address the con-
ference on the subject:

The students and faculty
of the Lamar Tech Eng-
ineering School, underlie

is the student chairman.
Department heads of the
school are in charge of the
contributions from each of
their respective fields.
Having received wide-
