Lamar's new bakery should be
finished and ready to begin
operation by the first of the year,
according to Leonard Bonsall,
superintendent of the bakery and
library projects.
The library and the physics
building are making steady
progress. Both Bonsall and
Tommy Meriwether, superin-
tendent for the physics building,
agree that work on their respec-
tive projects is right on schedule.
Additions to the library will
more than double its size. "A
two-story wing is being added
to the south end and a second
story covers the rest of the
building," said Bonsall.
Steel w ork is completed on
the library and masons should
have the structure enclosed by
the end of the term. Work
joining the new structure to the
old building, such as cutting of
stairwells, will take place while
students are out between
semesters. This will eliminate
the disruption of library activi-
ties. "The library is scheduled
for completion on June ’8," said
Bonsall.
Bonsall said the only hold up
he has had is the delivery of the
windows for the bakery.
Brick masons and iron workers
are engaged in construction of
the second floor for the physics
building. Also, electrical and
p 1 u m b 1 ing work is in progress,
according to H. C. Gray, job
foreman.
Other than the few rainy days
encountered over the last few
months, there have been no
delays on the construction.
"The building will be finished
in June, " said Meriwether.
All three projects are under
contract of Thad Dederick of
Houston.
