Practicing for Albuquerque.
A number of the members of the run-
ning team had a practice run wltb the
new cart last evening. The boys are
getting in fine trim, and the work last
evening Illustrated very forcibly that
any teain that expects to gain first prize
at Albuquerque against the Ki Paso
team, will have some lively work cut
out for it.
A number of the members failed to
put in an appearance for the practice,
though Capt. Kelfcr especially urged all
to be present, as one of the essentials of
success is practice and lots of it. Some
of the members cannot attend the prac-
tice meetings, on account of being com-
pelled to remain at their places of busi-
ness until half past eight or nine o'clock.
The employers should take enough inter-
est in the success o( the team at Albu
querque to let the men off to attond tho
practice runs. To-night there will be a
very Important meeting to arrange for
uniforms. As the uniforms will have to
be sent for to New Vork, It Is Important
that the order should be sent on at
once.

State National Bank.
Elsewhere in this issue we publish the
statement of the. State National Bank.
It will be observed that the capital, sur-
plus and deposit amount to nbout $350,>
000; cash and exchange on hand about
$123,000; United States bonds $04,000,
all of which shows the bank to be In
such easy circumstances that they are
prepared" for any emergency, and we
venture the assertion that there Is not a
bank in the whole west in better condi-
tion, or one better managed.
I'rof. Maurice's Private Dancing Aca-

There are at present lifty-three pris-
oners In the county jail, the largest num-
ber ever confined there. The cost to the
county for feeding these prisoners is
quite an item, in spite of the low rate,
45 cents a day each, amounting to
$715.50 a month, besides the expense In-
curred in purchasing necessary wearing
apparel.
The disciples of the bicycle should be
compelled to confine their vehicles to
the streets, or If it is strictly necessary
that they should run on the sidewalks
they should lie compelled to go at a mod
crate rate of speed, and not turn cor-
ners sharply, as they are liable to hurt
some one If given permission to use the
walks as a race track.

plead honesty "and low prices.
Chicago Merchant Tailor Parlor's com-
ing has had its effect. Compare the
Erices named to-day with those charged
efore our coming. The oily and bam-
boozly talk of our imaginary competit-
ors stands to-day for nothing. Judge
ye him by the past, and imagine our
would be rivals sitting upon the edge of
a damp cloud and singing to the sound
of a tuneless harp, after their fast de-
parting custom.
When a generous people give their
patronage to a merchant for years, de-
pending upon his veracity and honor
to be dealt with justly, it is the mean-
est act of a human' being to mistreat
that patron. The question that here
presents Itself Is simple and to the point.
Can a store that sells goods upon the
credit system,compete with the Chicago
merchant tailor that sells goods upon n
strictly cash basis? We say emphat-
ically "no!" There Is nothing in the
credit system but what is wicked and
dangerous, and no freeman should be
yoked to the ledger of any merchant.
READ THIS APPALLING LOGIC!
"The Inevitable logic of events buries

bition, fighting, struggling and perish-

ner of King Credit."—Humphries.
In conclusion, kind reader, we wish
to state some of Fall and Winter cloths
which we make up in suits for gents,
have come in, though they are only
the forerunners of a gigantic stock
which we will show in a few days. The
elegant patterns amply give some Idea
to the keen observer of what is fashion-
able this fall. Specially noticeable for
its beauty of design is im English plaid
worsted. Remember we arc the lenders
of fashion and the regulators of ' low
prices in El Paso. We will make a suit
to order for the same price that other
stores charge for ready made. It will
do you no harm to come anyway. We
propose to lead our establishment to the
front rank, playing second fiddle to no
living human. We arc positive in our
declaration that our house is the only
one In El Paso that is now receiving
new, novel and stylish cloths.
