A comity convention of the
people's party was belli to the
court house yesterday evening.
A respectable niimher of dele-
gates from h11 parts of the couoly
assembled.
It) looking over the convention
one was readily convinced that in
its personnel it was something
like the average political conven-
tion.
Some of onr best and most re-
spectable citizens were in it,while
about the usual number of bums
and crauks were found.
We noticed such respectable j
and honorable men as Basset?,
Whaley, Haile, Bentley, Tattle
and others like them mingled with j
some men of unsavory and unen-
viable distinction who always
wori themselves into every new
movement.
The convention was called to
order by A. M. Tnttle, county
ohairmao. who stated that before
sngaging in any great enterprise
it was proper to invoke the bless-
ings of Deify, and he reqnested
the convention to stand while J.

ed as second choice.
Ou motion of J. 0. Yell the
delegates were sent uninstrncted
as to the rest of the ticket.
Tramblaue moved that ten dele-
gates to the district convention at
Denton be selected.
Delegates: W. R. Long, D. R.
French, W. H. Springer. T. II
Smith, W. O. Williams. U. E.
Skaggs, W. 8. Bassett, W. J. Lit-

Broom.
Mr. Worley moved that the del-
egates be instrncted to oppose
congressional nominations until
after the Omaha convention.
Carried.
Kafas Edmonds got a chance
to get in another speech by call-
ing up the question of connty
conventions. He advised that
we go ahead jnst as if there were
no other people in the oonnty.
He said there bad not been a la-
boring man on the grand jury for
three vears. FTeie the delegates
became Impatient and Mr. Ed
uionds very reluctantly desisted
Worley moved that the nomina-
tion of a county ticket be post-
poned nntil Jnly 16, Saturday, at
1 p. m. A division was called for
on the vote. Eighteen voted for
this, and sixteen voted no, so the
motiou was carried.
Worley made a speech on the
necessity of work in some parts
of the coonty. He wants mis-
sionaries to go into the northeast
part of the connty. There were
plenty of people's party voters
there, and they were being bull-
dozed and the cause misrepre-
sented.
J. S. Jagers made a talk urging
the brethren to stand firm.
Troas Whaley made a short
talk in which he said that be had
plenty of friends in the democrat-
ic party and be loved them. He
wanted them to think well of hint
as he did of them. When the
candidates came around they
would find him glad to see them,
but he did not intend to vote for
them. He wanted a straight,
clean cut ticket.
The convention then adjourned.

PERSONAL.
Wild Aasertiona.
The assertion made by one of
the speakers in the convention
Saturdey that there had not been
a laboring man on the grand jury
in Cooke county for three years
was not only false in itself bnt
was made with the intention of
trying to prop up an erroneous
idea.
However, we suppose the speak-
er thought be was stating the
facts. He was trying to show
that it was important to have the
sheriff on their side on account of
the juries which be summoned.
But a man who does not know
enough of our sys'em to know
that the grand jurors are selected
by three jury commissioners ap-
pointed by the district Judge
ought not to be listened to. And
to tell the truth, this speaker had
a hard time getting the conven-
tion to listen to him.
Then any man knows that there
