Dear Sib—I have carefully compared the
data contained in Dr. Denison's Climatic Maps
and sncli other facts as I could command, and
find that the two places In the United States
the most favorable to those afflicted with any
pulmonary disease is embraced within a radius
of a few miles aboat San Diego. California, and
El Paso, Texas.
I bAse this upon the following tables which
show the annual and seasonal averages In tem-
perature, cloudiness, rainfall, and also the
moisture of the air, the range of daily and
monthly varlatlona In temperature, the dew
point, the mean of both minimum and maxi-

climate 1a debilitating
oonrAiATivi SHowura mo* th» statistics of
AWit, YAlHATlOXf..
In the above figures of the annual climate of
the several places mentioned. especiAl atten-
tion ia dealred to the following facts:
The altitude of El Paao Is reet, while that
of San Plego la S7 feet only, El Paso being
neither too high nor too low.
The dew point at El Paao la 11 degrees below
the mean of minimum temperature and it de
greee below the mean of annul temperature
while at San Diego It ia only three degreea be
low the mean of minimum temperature and 10
degrees below the mean of annnal temperature
At El Paso the mean of relative and absolute
humidity le also much leaa than nt San Diego
while Jacksonville la behind not only both
these places but also Denver.
The average rainfall la 88 Inches. At El Pa-o
It le 11. The average between dew point and
moan ol minimum temperature is 5 3-8 degrees
At El Paao It Is 11 degrees. The average mean
annual temperature la M> degrees At El Paso
it is 64 degrees, but the seasonal average at £1
Paao Is 86 degrees.
In every particular except aprlng winds, El
Paao shows a better record than San Diego,
and far better than Jacksonville or Savannah
The only place on the Atlantic coast that ap
preaches El Paso Is Ashvllle, North Carolina,
and for that place I have no seasonal figures.
crtmfabatite showino VHOH tu* statistics 0*
sjcahonal variations.
The statistics of the Seasonal Map arc also
quite favorable to El Paao.
The main featurea of the advantages of El
Pnso are to be found In the email percentage of
cloudiness, rain and humidity, and In the mild-
ness of the temperature, which, it should alao
be observed, Is not high enongh to bo euervat
lag. The rainfall la only two-thlnla of one
inch per month. It ahonld be borne In mind
that the seasonal showing is more Important,
since that Is the Ume invalids seek the effect of
climate at the south. Taking the mean tem-
perature as a basla and the mean dally varia-
tion or range, we have for El Pa>o the proba-
ble temperature of 41 degrees up to 71 degrees
for the three seasons of autumn, winter and
spring, and dew point $7 degrees. For San Di-
ego we have SO to 84 degrees with the dew point
at 90 degrees.
I consider from these figures that El Paao la
the superior place of the two, especially In the
three seasons above mentioned.
