For County Judge
Baylor county voters are going to
be fortunate in the list of material
offered In the county judge's race.
There will be one drawback, also,
to that wealth of material; It will
make the voter scratch his head
when he goes to scratch his ticket.
However, confining mention In this
article to only one of the candidates,
some description will be given of the
qualifications of one Robert Jones.
He is so well known to most of (the
voters that we hesitate to say any-
thing at all about him. but he has
n write up coming to him, and here
it is, whether it does him good or bad.
Mr. Jones has been county and
district clerk for several years, an-
other well known fact. Also, he has
filled that office in a way that could
leave nothing to be desired, and that
is also a well known fact. And now
Mr. Jones Is coming before the voters
with the modest request that they
support him for Judge, if they think
he is deserving of a promotion. And
if they think he can handle the new
situation.
Mr. Jones has been around these
diggings all of his life. During his
boyhood days he was on a farm in
Bomarton country, the family mov-
ing to Seymour when the children
became of high school age. After
finishing school Robert worked at
several different things around here,
and stopped off long enough to go
overseas and help lick the stuffin’
out of the Germans. He might do
it again if it should become necessary,
but meanwhile, he would like to be
judge.
And as to the qualifications of Mr
Jones for the place, it would be cov-
ering the ground quite properly to
just say that he has every qualifi-
cation that anyone could think of
that might be needed for the place
He has had ample training In hand-
ling the different features of this
work, iid his character qualifeations
are everything that could be asked
for. He is intelligent, fair, honest,
pleasant, accommodating, religious,
with charity toward all and malice
toward none. During his life in our
community he has been ready and
willing to help at every opportunity
in which he could serve, and there
are few who dr; not feel under ob-
ligations to him in some way.
i As to sped ic qualifications for the
office, it would be necessary to men-
i tion only one feature of the long
service which Mr. Jones has given
the county as clerk, lie na? become
! familiar with every pnase ci rounty
DAVID FAR1. McLEMORE
The community sorrows deeply
with Mr. and Mrs. J. R. McLemore
In the death c-f their 4-year-old son,
David Earl, who died Saturday morn-
ing In a Wichita Fnlls hospital. The
little fellow hod not been seriously
111, apparently, and an examination
at the hospital did not reveal any-
thing alarming about his condition.
But before there could be any med-
icine fixed up for him he was dead
Funeral services were held Sun-
day afternoon at 4:00 o’clock at the
Baptist church in Seymour, attended
by many sorrowing friends. Pastor
J. R. Batch was In charge of these
services, and interment was In the
Seymour cemetery,
David is survived by three broth-
ers and one sister: Olive Richard.
Roscoe Lee. J. R. Jr. and Kcmpie
Mae. These children have lived all
their lives near Lake Kemp dam,
where Mr. McLemore has been care-
taker of a number of houses for
the past ten years. The boy's grand-
parents, Mr. and Mrs. K. J. Mc-
Lemore, came up from Austin for
the funeral.
The grief of their loss leaves the
parents and loved ones disconsolate
now, but the sympathy of friends and
the community at large helps them
bear their loss, and the grace of the
Almighty will calm these troubled
souls.
DENTON—Miss Mary Kay Jones of
Frost has been elected to teach speech
in the high school ot Seymour. Miss
Jones will receive a bachelor of
science degree in speech June 3. Dau-
ghter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Jones of
Frost, Miss Jones has ben an outstand-
ing student on the campus. Holding
a variety of offices, Miss Jones is now
president of the student body and has
been a prominent student in the
speech department.
NEW STUDEBAKERS VISIT
SEYMOUR ON TEXAS TOUR
A group of new, colorful Stude-
bakcr Delux-tone models have just
been Jr ‘ ymour, where they were
,n i jii:y at the Howard Studer
rare or ->1 Studebaker dealer. The
caravan was In Seymour last night
and until noon today. Large num-
bers of local people Inspected tha
new models.
"Inside as well as out the new
Delux-tone models are a harmony of
blending colors and are available in
the Studebaker President, Command-
er and the sensational new low-priced
champion." Howard Studer said.
The eye-arresting exteriors, a com-
bination of varying hues of the same
basic color, enhance the flowing con-
tours designed by Raymond Loewy.
Five separate and distinct color com-
binations feature dark loweT body
with lighter shades of the same hue
on the entire top above the belt line.
The various ensembles are highlight-
ed by steel disc wheels of contrasting
bright colors.
New interiors carry out the har-
mony of the two-tone body treatment.
Cleverly tailored two-tcr.e upholstery
is offered in one of three color com-
binations depending upon the exte-
rior scheme selected. Broadcloth fab-
rics of light and dark tones of the
same base color unite to add unu-
sually attractive contrasts. Interior
compartment rugs match the darker
upholstery color. The instrument pa-
nel two-tone styling Is set off by
strips of gleaming chromium.
Window garnish mouldings adhere
to the modern two-tone styling. Even
the ivory colored deluxe phantom
steering wheel carries out its part in
the color plan. White sidewall tires,
which are standard equipment in
Delux-tone Commanders and Presi-
dents, add considerably to the attrac-
tiveness of the new cars.

affairs, as all of it has to do in one
way and another with his office.
Not onlv this, but there is another
point which Mr. Jones himself was
bold to mention, despite his annate
modesty. It is a foregone conclusion
that the county will have a new
clerk after the first of next January.
This clerk will need some help, no
matter how smart he may be and
of whatever native ability. With his
•xperience as clerk, and if he should
be honored with the office of judge
then Mr. Jones could he’p the new
clerk no end.
There is one more point on which
Mr. Jones thinks he could not be
excelled. He thinks he could ap-
preciate the support of his friends
for judge as much as any man living,
and he would show his appreciation
by making the county such an of-
ficer that the voters would never
have cause to regret having favored
Robert Jones with this favored place.

Weldon Parker and H. A. Hale Jr.
have come in from California for a
little visit with their parents in the
Westover community. Weldon is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Parker
and H. A.’s parents are Mr. and Mrs.
H. A. Hale Sr. The boys are wear-
ing their navy uniform, and before
long they will be tull fledged mem-
bers of Uncle Sam's sea fighting
forces. They have been for two
months at San Diego, where they
have been taking their land course
in military training. After the visit
here they will go back to California
and will be assigned to a ship for
naval training. From that time on
they will be connected with a ship
all through their six years in the
navy. The ship will be at lots of
different places, and the boys will
have a varied experience. It is to
be hoped that no war will be hatched
up during the time they are on their
ships.

the third flight, and he played an-
other 36 holes for the 54-hole total.
However, they had some hot shots
in that flight, and Richmond could
not keep up with them in the final
stretches. There will be a few who
will go over from here on Thursday,
afternoon to qualify for the West

which is played this week end. This
is a match play proposition, with
play beginning Friday. It has been

champion of the other 47 states, she
recently lost her Texas crown in the
state tournament at Brook Hollow in
Dallas. Mrs. Frank Goldthwaite of
Fort Worth emerged as the Texas-
champion. Miss Jamison was here
with Watt Matthews, Shackelford
county ranchman, who knew of the
skill of E. L. Humphreys and his
force in the making of cowboy boots.
Miss Jamison saw some of the boots
and decided she would get the shop
here to make her some golf shoes.
Accordingly the handsome little
Miss visited this place and got her-
self measured for some shoes. These
have been made up for her inspec-
tion, and she will be back the last
of this month after them. The shoes
are being made according to speci-
fications of the golf champion. The
uppers are made all in one piece and
sewed together at the back. Every-
thing else is according to the best
skill in golf footwear, including a
flexible instep. With all the places
where Miss Jamison could have had
shoes made, it is quite a compliment
to the Humphreys shop for her to
recognize the local skill. Maybe the
shoes will also be of national cham-
pionship caliber.

one is invited to attend, and to bring
a full basket for lunch and some for
the visitors. 36-37
