The Port Aransas Garden Club has chosen On The Beach RV, located at
907 Access Rd. 1A as November’s commercial yard of the month. John
Pool, groundskeeper, and Emma Arnold, owner, show off the landscaped
grounds with plants that include chrysanthums, spire lily, Norfolk pine trees,
Washingtonians, Hawaiian hibiscus, Barbados bush, jasmine, Palmaris,
tiger aloe vera, carton palm tree, candlestick, night moon and a large
cactus garden located at the back of the property containing more than
85 species of cacti.

Guided beach walk slated Friday
Walk off that turkey dinner at a
free, guided beach walk on Friday,
Nov. 26.
Beachcombers are invited to meet
at 9 a.m. for an informative beach
walk with guide Shirley Fischer.
Fischer will help visitors and resi-
dents learn about all the treasures
that wash ashore on Mustang Island
beaches.
Participants should meet on the
beach under the purple flag near
Horace Caldwell Pier. Beach walkers
should wear sunscreen, appropriate
shoes, hats and clothing and bring a
container for any treasures found.
The walks are offered on the fourth
Friday of each month, courtesy of the
City of Port Aransas Parks and Recre-
ation Department.

The City of Port Aransas Public Works Department hung Christmas decorations on South Alister Street on Monday,
Nov. 22. Running the front end loader is Jacob Ramirez, in the bucket is James Cluiss, and ready with more
decorations is James Martin. Beginning last year, the city began purchasing new decorations to replace the green
wreaths that had been used for many years. This year, 16 new pole decorations were added to the inventory. The
lights on the decorations will be turned on Monday, Nov. 29.
EMS Toy Round Up is full on
This season’s Emergency Services
Toy Round Up is under way.
The collection is running now through
Friday, Dec. 17.
This year marks the 13th year Port
Aransas police, fire and medical services
have held the toy drive.
New, unwrapped toys may be dropped
off at the Port Aransas Police station or
EMS office, both at 705 W. Ave. A, the
Family Center IGA at 416 S. Alister St.,
city hall at 710 W. Avenue A, ValueBank
at 500 S. Alister St. or the University of
Texas at Austin Marine Science Institute
at 750 Channel View Drive.
Monetary donations may be left at
city hall, 710 W. Ave. A, at the EMS
office or mailed to Port Aransas EMS,
Attention: Emergency Services Toy
Round Up, 705 W. Avenue A, Port
Aransas, TX 78373.
Checks should be made payable to
Emergency Services Toy Round Up.
When giving to the Round Up, don’t
forget kids 12 and older, as there is often
a shortage of gifts for teens, according
to event chairman Kristin Barton. Bar-
ton said, “We want all children in Port
Aransas to have a merry Christmas, and
with your help, together we can, one
child at a time.”
Applications for recipient families
may be picked up at the EMS office or
the police department through Friday,
Dec. 10.
Applications for toys must include
proof of residency in Port Aransas
with a rent or utility bill having a Port
Aransas zip code and some form of
identification.
Parents will pick up the unwrapped
toys before Christmas along with wrap-
ping paper and tape.

Art is on sale
this Saturday
Christmas shoppers looking for
unique gifts will want to visit Saturday’s
art sale at The Art Center for the Is-
lands.
Normally held on the third Saturday
each month, the November sale will be
on the fourth Saturday, Nov. 27, from
11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The art center, located at 3^3 N.
Alister St., sells unique art on canvas
and paper, and in pottery, jewelry and
sculpture.
More than 50 artists will offer from
10 to 50 percent off some or all of their
work at the sale.

lect nonperishable food items to go with a
Christmas dinner and cash to help pay for
perishables, such as turkeys and hams.
Collections begin Friday, Nov. 26,
from noon to 6 p.m. at the Family Center
IGA, 416 S. Alister St. Volunteers will
be on hand during those same hours
Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 27 and 28,
and every Saturday and Sunday through
Dec. 19. The rest of the week, contribu-
tions may be put in a box at the Family
Center or dropped off at the post home,
311 N. Alister St.
Cash contributions may be mailed to
Care and Share, c/o VFW Post 8967, PO.
Box 1447, Port Aransas, TX 78373, or
dropped off at the post home.
The boxed dinner ingredients will be
delivered the week of Dec. 20.
Eligible families that would like to re-
ceive a box of goods to make a Christmas
dinner may sign up at the post home by
Saturday, Dec. 18. They must provide a
name, complete street address, telephone
number and proof of residency in Port
Aransas. Those already registered with
the Helping Hands Food Pantry will
be registered automatically, but need
