through the said blacks. The said rods are
adjustably connected at their lower ends
with the rear ends of the arms 10, and hand
wheels 17 are screw threaded upon the upper
5 ends of the rods 16 and rest upon the upper
faces of the blocks 15. Therefore it will be
seen that by rotating the said hand wheels,
the rods 16 will be moved vertically through
the blocks and thus the rear ends of the arms
10 10 may be raised or lowered. Therefore the
frame may be positioned at any desired dis-
tance from the surface of the soil, or one
side of the said frame may be located nearer
the surface of the soil than the other'side.
15 A yoke 18 is mounted upon the upper side
of the cross bar 1, and a shaft 19 is jour-
naled upon the cross bar 2. A sleeve 20
is pivotally mounted at its rear end upon
the shaft 19 and its forward portion lies
20 between the intermediate portion of the yoke
18 and the top of the bar 1. A tongue 21 is
inserted in the forward end of the sleeve 20.
A hand wheel 23 is fixed to the upper end
of the shaft 19, and a drum 24 is fixed to
25 the shaft 19 and is located within the sleeve
20. A cable 25 is attached at one end to one
end of the yoke 18 from whence it passes
through the side of the sleeve 20, thence back
to the drum 24 and around the same, thence
30 forward and out at the opposite side of the
sleeve 20 and is attached at its other end to
the other end of the yoke 18. Therefore it
will be seen that by turning the hand wheel
23 and rotating the shaft 19 that said cable
35 will be moved longitudinally by the drum
24, and inasmuch as the ends of the cable
are fixed to the yoke 18, which in turn is
fixed to the bar 1, the forward portion of the
frame will be swung horizontally under the
40 sleeve 20 and thus means is provided for
adjusting the frame at a desired angle with
relation to the sleeve and the tongue,
whereby the line of draft of the frame may
be varied.
45 A seat post and seat, indicated at 26, is
carried upon the cross bar 2 and the hand
wheel 23 is within reach of one occupying
the said seat. A shaft 27 extends trans-
versely across the frame and is journaled at
50 the upper forward portion thereof. An
arm 28 is fixed to the shaft, and a lever 29
is fuilcrumed upon the rear portion of the
frame. A rod 30 operatively connects the
lever 29 with the arm 28. Therefore it will
55 be seen that by swinging the lever 29 that
the rod 30 will be moved longitudinally and
the shaft 27 will be partially rotated.
Heads 31 are provided with forwardly
projecting lugs 32 which are adjustably
60 mounted thereon and. which engage the fore-
most bars 8 and 9 and which may be ad-
justed in their positions thereon. These lugs
are pivotally secured to the said bars by
means of pins 33 which pass transversely
65 through the lugs and the bars. Beams 34are pivotally connected at their forward
ends with the heads 31. -The shaft 27 is pro-
vided with fixed arms 35, and rods 36 pivot-
ally connect the arms 35 with the forward
portions of the beams 34. Therefore it will 70
be seen that as the shaft 27 is partially ro-
tated, as hereinbefore described, the rear
end portions of the beams 34 may be raised
or lowered. These beams 34 may carry at
their rear ends cultivator shovels, in which 75
case the rear end portions of the said beams
are left free for vertical movement. How-
ever, the beams may carry at their rear ends
plow bodies, in which instance links 37 are
connected at their lower ends with the rear 80
ends of the beams 34 and at their upper.
ends are adjustably connected with angle
irons 38 which in turn are adjustably sup-
ported upon the rearmost bars 8 and 9.
In operation, the frame may be disposed 85
at a desired angle with relation to the line
of draft as the contour of the surface of the
soil may require and the frame may be em-
ployed for supporting a gang of breaking
plows. When used as a cultivator, the inter- 90
mediate portion of the frame may straddle
a row of plants, whereby the beams 34 will
be located at the opposite sides of the row,
and if the space between the rows is limited,
the wheels 13 may be positioned between 95
the bars 5 and the lowermost bars 7. Also,
the frame may be positioned at any desired
distance from the surface of the soil, and if
desired one side of the frame may be nearer
the said surface than the other. 100
Having thus described the invention, what
is claimed as new is:
1. A frame including a forward corner
bar, rear corner bars arranged in pairs
spaced from each other, a lower bar connect- 105
ing the forward and rear corner bars to-
gether, top bars arranged in pairs and con-
necting the forward and rear corner bars
together, arms pivoted at their forward ends
to the forward corner bars and fitting be- 110
tween the members of the pairs of the rear
corner bars, wheels journaled to the arms,
and means for raising or lowering the rear
ends of the arms and for holding the same
in adjusted positions. 115
2. A frame including forward corner bars,
rear corner bars arranged in pairs the mem-
bers of which are spaced from each other,
lower bars connecting the forward and rear
corner bars together, top bars connecting 120
the forward and rear bars together, the said
top bars being arranged in pairs the mem-
hers of which are spaced from each other,
arms pivoted at their forward ends to the
forward corner bars and fitting between the 125
members of the rear corner bars, means for
moving the rear ends of the arms up or
down and holding them at adjusted posi-
tions, wheels journaled upon the arms, and
upright bars mounted upon the arms at 1302
