THE BELLAIRE TEXAN
OUR SIDE,
TRACKS.
Pets play a big part in the life
of the average family. In fact,
they become so much a mem-
ber of the family that any threat
of their health and happiness (by
other than a member ofthefamTy)
brings instant reactions.
Dogs, cats, raccoons, snakes,
white rats, armadillos, par-
akeets—they all play a role
in our family life.
Take the parakeet; this little
chirpy and, at times, talkative
bird quickly eases into the hearts
of its owner. As it has with the
Don Janicek family at 4420 Effie.

Thus it was tragic last Friday
morning when Pretty Boy, the
Janicek parakeet, flitted out the
door when Betty left to open the
family business (Don’s Bellaire
Records). Trauma ensued—Betty
in tears, kids atwit.
Betty had to go keep the
store, but the Janicek kids fan-
ned out up and down streets
entreating Pretty Boy to come
home. No luck. Finally, David,
7, typed out the Janicek name
and address on many, many
slips of paper and went from
door to door in the immediate
area explaining about the mid-
ding bird and asked that any
finder of a green parakeet
please return same to the Jan-
icek residence. It paid off,
Sunday, children at 4602 Birch
were playing in the yard when a
green parakeet fluttered down and
landed on the head of one of the
kids. Though frightened back into
a tree by delighted shrieks of the
kids, the mother of one lured
the bird into a cage.
One of the boys remember-
ed that David was looking for

ler, attorney, and member of PTA
board sat down and discussed what

Woman Ditches
Pontiac On
Evergreen
Mrs. Theo Lawson Hebert of
5906 Leon was driving east on
Evergreen at noon Monday and
when she made a left turn to
go north on Rice, just kept on
turning left and ended-up in Rice
ditch. Mrs. Herbert, whose daugh-
ter was in the car with her, was
taken to Memorial Hospital police
said, and released with no serious
injuries.
Her 1960 Pontiac was damaged
some, and police officers said she
was charged with negligent co-
lision.
Or. her round-about-turn, Mrs.
Hebert collided with the ’62 Buick
driven by Ralph E. Bradley Jr.,
of 49i7 Welford.
Mr. Bradley had stopped at the
light, going south, and since he
and Mrs. Hebert were the only
cars at the intersection, he looked
all round to see who knocked her
car in the ditch! His car was
slightly damaged on the left back
fender.
