NET/ CENTURY ENTERTAINMEUST
List Monday evening Bethel
church was filled witu the mem-
bers and friends of the church to
enjoy the program published by
the .Tohnson-Waldron ciub. This
wan truly a "new century enter-
tainment"—aside from the very
rare display in music by Mr. Am-
brose and Mr. Grant together will,
the deilgntful solo by that sweet
winger, Miss Harris. The audience
was given a Mirpr»se in the rendi-
tion of that old,but oeciitiful hymn
"Jesus, Lover of my Soul,'' by llevs
W ai>ir«-i:, as soprano; Johnson, as
alto; and Greggs as bas.^o; the
q'.iar'e'le. Iliti \\ ;■ s to be sung, on
account (.) He v. Lliiott's piejMiing
to leave tne city, was omitted and
the trio sung instead—which re-
ceived loud ana repented applause
from the audience, thai caused a
return of tho tiioto ti>e platform,
when they merely bowed and re"
tired amid many cheers.
The next number was the famous
"German Band," led by Prof W 1
Lewis, known as <*Capt Romania,"
who gave quite an exhibition of the
musical ability of his band.
rIhe alto solo by Dr A \V Smith
was wonderful in its sound hs was
also the solo by MrUu Mays. '1 he
bass drummer, MrS II Hart was a
picture worthy an artist's pen, «iiii
the snare drummer, Mr I A Ross,
— who can describe him? 'fh**e«-r-
netist, Mr E U Deas was the r gln
man in the right j lucivnui ih<* b-i r
itonist, Mr JS G:;i?:t, who It ii il-
ways a treat to hear was up to his
usual standard.
The entire band was under the
leadership of Prof W I Lewis, who
ted wi'h a piccolo;this leader could
be better appreciated by seeing
ana hearing than by any descrip-
tion that we can give ef him.
Prof A~St~t*£0 Richardson repr«
sente<l an Englith gentleman v l «
was tinxh'tts to engage the band
lor whose benefit the band perform
ed. T':is number afforded rare
amusements. Refreshments were
sold by the various member.3 of the
club.
This was truly "a new century
entertainmen t.
Too mujh credit cannot be given
Prof J R Johnson, who had entirt
charge of the program. The whole
