gan’s influences for a third term,
said : ‘‘Illinois is as little ‘owned’ as
any state in the Union.”
The only Chinese voter in New
York lias come out flat-footed for
Blaine, because Blaine is “a dlam
good Mulligan man.”
S. H. McLean, esq., of San An-

date for the office of attorney-gen-
eral, at the democratic state nomi-
nating convention, lion. George
McCormick, present incumbent, has
positively refused to be a candidate
for re-election.
Negotiations with the Utes were
concluded Saturday, and a foimal
agreement signed by the chiefs and
headmen, fifteen in number, now in
Washington and by the secretary of
the interior. They agree to give up
all who were engaged in the Meeker

Prickly Ash Bitters
And Malarifuge,
•pIIESE BITTERS wii! prevent con-
X trading of chills and a'l malarial dis-
eases if properly used, by invigorating the
liver, toning the stomach, and regulating
tfie bowels and kidneys. It is n prepara-
tion from such vegetable extracts, o(
which the Prickly Ash constitutes a lead-
ing part, that enters into the regular pre-
scription practice of all medical men,
among whom Dr. Sherman is justly
classed as the successful compounder af
ter an experimental practice of 30 years,
as a complete antidote to all influences
which, if not arrested in time, terminate
in chills and fever or other malarial dis-
eases.
Though pleasant to the taste, it is not a
beverage, (as the extracts are held in so-
lution in pure Holland gin only) because
of its cathartic properties, and is therefore
an infallible remedy for habitual constipa-
tion.
THE MALARIFUGIi is a certain cure
lor chills when once contracted. It lias
never failed to effect a cure where the di-
redions. which accompany eacli bottle,
are followed.
Druggists are hereby authorized to re-
fund tlie money to any party purchasing
who claims a core is not effected, provid-
ness moves ever ventured upon by ing the directions are followed and the
, 1 empty bottle returned. For sale bv all
any individual, and the country will drilg(;jsts
watch with interest Jay Gould’s next ________
step. Between the evening of the
29th of February and the morning
of the 1st of March, he disconnect-
ed 7,000 miles of wire Irom the
Western Union offices and connected
them with his own, already fitted up
for the occasion.
Virginia, alter a patient trial lias
repealed the bell punch law ; and the
most sensible thing the next legisla- i
ture of this state can do, will be to j
repeal the law also. It is only a |
premium upon dishonesty, not only \
on the part of bar-keepers, but pat- j
entees ot punches, lobbyists and leg-
islators who have an eye to business.
No measure proposed at this ses-
sion of congress has more earnest
supporters than the general bank-
rupt bill. While not perfected in
all its details, great progress has
been made in its preparation. Peti-
tions in its favor are received by
congress every day, and delegations
of business men from various cities |
have been and are on the way to !
Washington to urge its passage.

Two daughters of Conductor
Spencer, ot Denison, are boarding
in Sherman and attending Piofessor
Nash’s Institute. Yet Denison still
brags about her schools.—Sherman
Courier.
Very tiue, both as to the Misses
Spencer and as to our bragging
about our schools. We have not as
yet any either public or private high
school at which young ladies and
gentlemen can finish their education,
so our citizens can and do send their
children elsewhere for final instruc-
tion. Let tlie Courier remember
that vve have public schools, howev-
er, where over 500 children are an-
nually instructed free of charge. We
are willing that Prof. Nash should
brag over his ‘‘High School,” as he
has a light to, but we can’t see how
that helps Sherman any, or what
she has to brag about.

The lottery decision in the su-
preme court of the Distiict of Co-
lumbia was in favor of the postmas-
ter general. It affirms the authority
of the postmaster genetal to forbid
the delivery of registered letters and
money orders to persons carrying on
lottery business. The court says the
question grew out of and turned on
the right of tlie plaintiff to use the
mails at his will, notwithstanding
the act of congress withholding the
privilege of registration of letters and
money orders to gift concerts and
lotteiies. Tlie lotteiy dealers claim-
ed that this law is ar. unconstitution-

are entitled to ; but the court held
that congress was competent to re-
fuse the privilege so withheld from
them in the interest of the public
