of the champion dodgers of taxes, Andrew

Some few years back, Mellon it was

Of course now, Mellon will be extoll-

of having deserted his party, lt
says:
“Roosevelt has not forsaken his
party. It has not forsaken him,
hut some of those who claim to be
his friends, Tv.ive proven other-
wii.'. Ever.j.e can go back in
experence and recount the same
sort of disappo nting experience "
So far as we have read, nobody
has accused the president of hav-
forsaken his party, nor can a
charge of that kind he made to
stand. He is loyal to his party,
and will remain loyal to it.
The charge that has been made,
and that can be easily proven, is
that the Democratic party, as ex-
pressed in its platforms of 1932
and previous years for a century
or more and has substituted
therefor principles and policies
of his own The party of which
he is the head is not the party
of Jefferson, Cleveland and Wil-
son, but the party of Roosevelt.
It is his party, indeed, and for
four years he has been its undis-
puted master. He hasn’t forsak-
en it, and he is not likely to for-
sake it.
continue to support him—or even
after they may cease to support
him. But what men who still
cherish the principle* of the Demo-
cratic parly object to is that the
new party should claim the right
to retain the name of the old
party, and to claim that men who
-till hold to The Roosevelt par-
ty has seized the reins of govern-
ment of the party, changed its
principles and policies and insists
on the right to retain the honor
of its glamorous part.
President Roosevelt and the
majority of the people which sup-
ports him and his policies have a
perfect legal right to do so. Pc-r-
flaps the new principles and ro!i-
cies advocated by the Demo-
cratic party of old, and if so the
country will profit by adhering
to the new, but there is no moral
right to sustain the claim that the
Roosevelt party is the Democratic
party. The resemblance it bears
to the Democartic party is the
name, and it has filched that. It
is indeed Mr. Roosevelt’s party. It
is and will continue to be, his at
long as the majority of the voters
support it.—Bonham Favorite.
