Such A Thing As Nations
Demanding Too Much
When Bismark marched out of France
with a billion dollars of French money paid
Gerinny and the concession of Alsace-Lor-
raine a certain Spanish nobleman remind-
ed Bismark that there was such a thing as
asking too much. To which the German
replied that the “whole question is not
worth the bones of a grenade thrower.”
The answer to Bismark was the statue
of mourning setting forth their lost terri-
tory and the swearing before that statue
of the younger generation to not rest until
they had rescued their lost possessions.
How well that warning to Bismark has
come true is a matter of history.
If it is true that Hitler has made weak-
ened Czechoslovakia yield to Ills heel there
is no doubt but another statue of mourning
will be erected and the people of the now
humiliated small country shall bide the
day when they shall repossess their lost
land.
Always when men are mad with pow-
er and lust for possession, they drive bar
gains that have a way of coming back for
settlement at a later date. The world i
keyed up that way. Otherwise, the sur-
vival of brute power would ultimately
crush out everything that maljes for de-
cency and cultivating.of the better clement
in man.
Some day, Hitler and his follower.'-,
and all their ilk, will find that the arm”
which they thought was subdued, fought
a winning battle after all.
We would most earnestly commend
to the Denison Garden Club—or somebod y
—the matter of those dirty alleys in tlm
residential section. A trip up most of
them will reveal the fact that hardly .
single block is in sanitary shape. Trash
of all kind is thrown indiscriminately in
the alleys, no containers being used as the
city law requires. Also, while we are a1
making the residential section more live-
able, it might help a great deal if we could
have a city ordinance ending the practice
of burning trash in late afternoons to dis-
turb sleepers.

IV/J Y RECENT column on the gel-
*Y* atln mask for toning the sltln,
refining enlarged pores and eradi-
cating fine lines has brought many
requests lor other simple beauty
aids that can
be prepared at
home.
Here are a
few sugges-
tions that ex-
perimentally-
inclined girls
might like to
try.
Honey Is
probably the
oldest cosmetic
known, al-
though few
women today
know how to
use It. It Is
mildly bleaching, astringent and
softening. Pure, undiluted honey
should not be used on the skin too
often, however, as It Is very drying.
Use It about every 10 days to has-
ten any other corrective beauty
routine you are following. Mix It
with other Ingredients for more
frequent use.
For the excessively oily skin with
enlarged pores, try a simple astrin-
pint lotion made by adding two
tablespoons warm strained honey
to one cup warm witch hazel. Place
In a bottle and shake until thor-
oughly blended. This can be ap-
plied every night after you clean
your face tyith soap and water,
l eave on overnight, rinse the skin
zith warm water In the morning
ind apply .vour make-up.
If you are troubled with a harsh
ry skin and enlarged pores you
\n prepare a richer, more sooth'
: astringent by blending one
spoon warm honey with four
despoons milk or cream. Use In
? same way as the witch hazel-
i.oney lotion.
For bleaching and smoothing
the skin add two tablespoons

honey to six tablespoons cold
cream Heat together and blend bj
beating with a rotary egg beater
while the mixture cools. Use as you
would any cream but leave on youi
skin about an hour. Wipe away as
much as you can and wash with
warm Roap suds and a complexion
brush. Try using this honey cream
over your entire body before youi
warm evening bath. Scrub with a
bath brush and soap suds and set
how velvety and smooth your skin
Is after this treatment.
An egg fallal Is a grand pick-up
for the oily or blemished skin. It
Is quite vigorous In action, how-
ever, and should not be used more
than once a month. If the skin Is
dry, cleanse with cream and then
pat the neck and face with the
richest cream you have. If your
skin Is normal or oily apply a bit
of soothing hand lotion and apply
the egg while the skin Is still
slightly moist.
Separate the yolk and white of
the egg, but do not beat. Spread a
layer of the egg yolk over the face
(do not apply It to the eyelids or
Just below the eyes) and dry quick-
ly by fanning.
Now, apply a second layer of the
yolk and leave It on for half an
hour. Over these two coatings of
yolk npply a layer of egg white and
dry this quickly by fanning. Apply
a second layer of egg white and
He down for another half hour.
Now remove the mask by sponging
gently with pads of cotton satu-
rated with cool water. Cool com-
presses will soothe your skin If It
feels Irritated and will tighten the
pores.
Eggs are often recommended aR
a combination treatment and
shampoo for reconditioning dull,
lifeless hair. Eggs alone will do a
fair cleansing Job, but to get XuU
benefit from an egg treatment It li
wise to shampoo your hair with
melted soap first to remove all
dust, lint and nil from the scalp

When vitamins, called ‘‘living
principles that are necessary to
health " and calories, or "energy
units ” are furnished in proper and
proportionate amounts, there is
little reason for digestive trouble.
And now. an answer to a cor-
respondent. A mother asks for
advice concerning twin girls, six
years old. who are alDicted by an
excessive growth of hair on the
arms. This is not an uncommon
condition. We do not know the
exact cause of this excessive
growth, but authorities agree that
it Is due to the unbalanced action
of some of the glands of internal
secretion. We are sometimes able
to promote the growth of hair by
injections of an extract of the
anterior pituitary gland, but we do
not possess any method of decreas-
ing It.
This excessive growth of hair
usually diminishes at the age of
puberty. If not, It can be removed
by the use of depilatory drugs, but
this Is Just a temporary relief. The
growth can be permanently re-
moved only by the electric needle.

In cream, butter, meat, and cer-

basic foods, but these alone will
not produce a healthy child or
adult. Vegetables and fruits are
necessary, because they furnish
salts, iron, vitamins and water.
As I have explained before, the
vitamins are those elusive food ele-
ments whose absence proves their
value — like the smell boy's sail
which was "the stuff that spoils
the potato when you don't put it
on.” The growing child needs
more food than the adult, and
must have It provided In a mere
easily assimilated form until his
reduction machinery Is strong
enough to work with the heavier
foods.

Alka-Seltzer makes a sparkling
alkaline drink. As it contains an
analgesic (Acetyl - Salicylate),
it first relieves the pain of
.everyday ailments, then by help-
ling to restore the alkaline bal-
ance, tends to remove the cause
when due to excess acid.
