SON. BEHOLD THY MOTHER
ARE TENDER WORDS
“Son, behold thy mother,,i were the
tender words of the Christ oil Calvary and
are among the choice words of the Son of
Man at a time when the world was listen-
ing for the last utterances of the man
w ho died to lift not only womanhood,
but all mankind.
fchattel, was uttering words hard
understood..
Woman, of all the creatures, has
been given the lift that meant more than
any one thing. No longer is she the ser-
vant and a thing to be solid, and valued at
a price noti at all above a beef steak, but
she is what God intended her—a mother
of all that is good and wholesome and
noble,
20c No wmnder men have said she is the
$2.50 Sweetest Mother in the world when
referring to their own mother. To say
that all we are and hope to be we owe to
her, is not at all placing a wrong empha-
sis on the facts.
Woman and motherdhood has come
a long way since thot day on Golgotha. Of
all mankind the woman should be the
most devoted follower of the Christ for
what He has done for her.
And the normal status of woman is
in bearing children and becoming a mo-
ther. For if there is any real threat to
this country it is in the fact that we are
leaning too much toward being without
children in the ranks of the Anglo-Saxon
blood of this country.
There indeed is a real peril to the
future of this America for which our
sons are today lighting. Bear children
and populate the earth is the mandate of
God to mothers and, the second is like
unto it, “Bring up a clnjld in the way it
should go and when it is old it will not
depart from it.’’

Denison is fast becoming the fisher-
man’s paradise. The other day, two sol-
diers from Perrin Field, doing their first
fishing with the rod, pulled in a fish,
each fisherman having his hook in the
same fish. And the freak of it was that
it was the largest bass so far caught in

Molotov’i Objection
(Greenville Banner)
Foreign Commissar Molotov of
Russia threw the proverbial
“monkey wrench into tbe ma-
chinery’’ at the World Security
Conference in San Francisco
when he blocked what was sup-
posed to have been the routine
election of Secretary Stettinius
of the United States as per-
manent president of the confer-
ence. Why he objected to the
selection of blr- i) ettinius for
the presidency is something
that no doubt only Commissar
Molotov himself understands.
Besides blocking the election
of Mr. Stettinius for the pres-
idency of the conference, the
ieader of the Russian delegation
took o her action which makes
it pretty well certain that Rus-
sia expects to be in or near the
driver’s seat in drafting the
aims of the conference. Thus,
it seems that what was feared
in many diplomatic circles—lie
lack of harmony at the confer-
ence—mav become an actuality.
‘It would not be expected of
Commissar fdolotov to yield on
important issues during the
sessions of the conference, but
in this instance his objection to
a ma ter concerning organiza-
tion was not only unexpected,
but out of place. He did not
take into consideration the fact
that that is customary for th"
head qf :a host delegation to
be named permanent chairman
of a conference.

Probably no shorter speech
was ever delivered than the one
that President Lincoln made at
a flag-raising before the Treasu-
ry Building—for he saw no rea-
son to speak at length when he
had nothing to say:
"The part assigned to me is to
i.'iise he flag, which, if there bo
no fault in the machinery, I will
do, and when up, it will be for
the people to keep it up.”
Almost c.fi brief but filled
with touching sentiment was the
speech that Lincoln delivered as
lie was leaving Springfield to
take the o;j h of the Presidency.
His lip quivered and there was
a tear on his furrowed cheek as
he said:

The Russian official will have
to change his tactics if the
conference is to ahead har-
moniously When there is dis-
cord on a matter that is trivial
compared to the importance of
other business to be discussed
there is danger of many obsta-
cles rearing up to be overcome
before the conference might be
termed successful.
