Photograph of the interior of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dublin, Texas decorated for Christmas services.

Physical Description

1 photograph : negative, b&w ; 10 x 13 cm.

In the early 1900s, missionary priests of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate were sent out from San Antonio to serve Catholic families that had settled in and around Dublin. In 1908, the first Mass in Dublin was said in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Courtney. In 1916 a few Catholics bought the church building from the Presbyterians. It had originally been built by the Methodists in 1887, but was moved to Grafton St. In the 1950s, St. Mary's was changed to the Dallas diocese and served by the Pallottine priests from Weatherford. In 1969, St. Brendan's church was erected in Stephenville, and St. Mary's was served as a mission church of Stephenville. In September 2001 ground was broken for a new church between Dublin and Stephenville on Highway 377 to serve both communities. The Little Church on Grafton was donated to the Dublin Historical Society, and it has been renovated for use as a community center, a meeting room for the Historical Society, and a Museum annex.
