The home of Sandy and Terry White at 602 Station was chosen as
the July residential yard of the month. Plants include hibiscus, palms,
oleander, ferns, orchid tree, wisteria, banana tree, rubber tree, 4
o’clock, green beans, lilies, iris and annuals of phlox, petunias,
daisies, mums and others. The yard gives birds a safe haven and
food. The gazebo and bird house add contrast with nature.
Brown remembers the friendships
he made as a boatman, but he also
has had some memorable fishing
trips.
The three women who had never
been fishing before are one such
trip.
“They wanted a tarpon,” Brown
recalled. “Of course, I couldn’t
guarantee them a tarpon, but we did
get two good strikes and they were
pretty happy.
“They sent me a newspaper clip-
ping after they got home about their
fishing trip, and it quoted them as
saying the boat captain treated us
like he was God.”
Brown grinned.
“I guess I did,” he said.
