Mrs. Gervys Mangum of Poteel
spent last week-end here as the guest
of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Kollman. Mrs.
Mangum will be remembered as Miss
Ima Caruthers, who formerly resided
here with her parents. She left here
with them nineteen years ago when
in the sixth grade of school and went
to Poteet where she later married
and has resided ever since. She is the
mother of three daughters, one of
w-hom is named Jerry after Mrs.
Kollman, the former Jerry Fussel-
man. Mrs. Mangum’s visit was the
occasion of much pleasure to old
friends and former classmates.

FORMER D’HANIS WOMAN DIES
Mrs. Bertha Albrecht, aged 83,
died Monday, April 15, 1940, in San
Antonio. She was the wife of Aug
list Albrecht, and mother of Mrs.
Gertrude Heinsch, Walter E. and A.
R. Albrecht. Seven grandchildren
also survive.
Mrs. Albrecht was a native of
Germany and had lived many years
in D’Hanis before moving to San An
tonio nine months ago.
Funeral services were held Wed
nesday, April 17, at 9:15 A. M. from
228 Main Street, South San Antonio,
and at 9:30 A. M., at St. Joseph’s
Church, South San Antonio, with
requiem mass offered by Rev.
Eustace Struckoff. Interment was
made in San Fernando Cemetery No.
FORMER QUIHI WOMAN DEAD
Mrs. Lucy Thiel, aged 70 years, of
637 Aransas avenue, San Antonio,
died Sunday, April 14, 1940. Rites
were held Tuesday at 2 P. M. at the
Porter Loring chapel and interment
made in San Jose burial park. She
was a native of Medina County, but
had lived in San 'Antonio most of
her life. She was a member of
Vineta Lodge No. 15, Hermann Sons.
Survivors are a son, Walter Thiel,
Von Ormy; sister, Mrs. Katie Hagel-
gans, San Antonio; brothers, Charles
and Dominic Reitzer, both of Quihi.

office Saturday. Mr. Pichot report-
ed heavy damage to crops in the
Seco valley, and says for the second
time this spring a three-acre patch of
his corn was killed outright by the !
freeze, this time the plants having
reached the jointing stage of growth, j

H. Smith, 0. A. Fly and J. H. Bur-
gin, with Charles Finger as driver, 1
motored to Georgetown Saturday I
where they sppnt the week-end at-
tending the Centennial celebration
of Southwestern University, where
their children, Misses Betty Jean
Merriman, Frances Ruth Fly, and
Dorothy Burgin, and Burleigh Smith,
are students. On Sunday they were
joined by Mr. Merriman, Mr. Fly,
and Dr. Smith.
Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Pope returned
home Wednesday from an enjoyable
trip through East Texas and nart of
Louisiana. They left last Friday and
went to Port Arthur where they at-
tended the wedding of Mrs. Pope’s
brother, Mr. Robert Raymond Gray,
and Miss Mary Carolyn Gates. From
there they drove through the western
part of Louisiana and returned home
by way of Georgetown where they
visited their son, Glenn, a student
at Southwestern University, and by
Austin.
Rothwell Bohmfalk, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Louis Bohmfalk, left
Wednesday morning for Inks Dam,
on the Colorado river near Burnet,
Texas, where he will spend three
months in the government’s Youth
Administration service. He will de-
vote half of each working day to
work and the other half to some
kind of study and mechanical train-
ing. Rothwell has been spending
some of his idle time learning to
operate the linotype at the Anvil
Herald office and was making fair
progress. He hopes to be able to con-
tinue his practice at the dam.
