Retail Merchants will meet
only on the first Wednesdays of
the month through the summer.
This is the regular breakfast
meeting and will be held as usual
at Kips at 7:30 a.m. These are
most interesting and enjoyable
meetings so plan to attend the next
monthly breakfast. Call the
Chamber office to make your re-
servation so they know how many
to plan for. In looking over the
work of the committee over the
past five and a half months one
discovers many members contri-
buted their thoughts on what is
needed most in Bellaire, from a
merchants stand point, over forty
ideas in fact. As for a positive
program of action based upon
these ideas we will have to wait
until after the summer recess to
find out what is planned. Several
good programs partially under-
taken are: The setting up of a dir-
ectory, in map form, of all the
stores etc in the Bellaire city
limits. This will be available thru
the newcomer mailing and in the
various stores themselves. Jack
Gurwell is working on this. The
Chamber Office is working on a
tip sheet for the guidance of the
stores in preventing robberies,
hold-ups, and shoplifting. One of
the Bellaire P.D. will hand carry
these to the stores so as to em-
phasize it’s importance and to
give specific advice to each store
manager or owner, according to
the nature of his business.
Jim Bryant Mr. B, is following
thru on his campaign to get some-
thing going in the way of a re-
sponsible group that will concen-
trate on ideas to give the shop-
ping section a facelifting. If you
have any thoughts and wish to par-
ticipate call Jim.
One real achievement, brought
on by merchants cooperation, is
the trial traffic islands at the
Bissonnet - Cedar intersection.
My personal observation is that,
generally, they are accomplish-

Roger is back home after a
three week visit to his native land
and a visit with his 89 year old
mother. He reports a wonderful
vacation and the pleasure of re-
newing old friendships and seeing
relatives again. He also states
that it is still good to get back to
the old U.S. of A. and in spite of
the ties of the country of ones
birth, which you never really
break completely, Bellaire is
still his home. I feel the same
way about England as Rogerdoes
about Sweden. Neither country is
the same as when we left, (and
no smart remarks from the jok-
er set). . .Happiness is getting
a combined Father’s Day and
Birthday Card from a daughter
you thought had forgotten.
